I went onto the game to see if I could get any Shadow Stones from the Auction House (after being outbidded. Again.) and had a run in with a beggar... For the sake of his Sanity, we're gonna call him [REDACTED]. Note that this has nothing to do with the Travelling [REDACTED], Basil.

[REDACTED]: Hi can u lend me 5000 coins
Me: nope
[REDACTED]: or is it too much im still new
Me: Too much. You can grind as much as you want you know
[REDACTED]: how do u grind
Me: Go into the Arcade... and PLAY

(At about this point I realized he was manually clicking on me and pressing "Tell").

[REDACTED]: where is it and how do i play
[REDACTED]: do i play games
Me: It's north of here. Though the door.
[REDACTED]: wheres north im only 7 u know

(Alarm bells start ringing)

Me: Some advice? Get off this game: people are gonna find out and BAn you.
[REDACTED]: find out what
Me: Because you're too young

He then said "k" out loud and logged off, and I went to the Auction House and outbidded myself.

Should I report him? Or should I just leave him at that, and hope he doesn't come back?

Should have asked why the player wanted 5,000 but, you can earn it back anyway cuz mist is taken out so ele fee don't exist.

As for the age thing, trolls love to do that sorta thing. Best to go along with it and not warn the ppl about age limits. I mean it's right here: ToS wiki page.Just make conversation. Ban people later.

why do people ask these kinds of questions on the forums? It already happened, just ignore these people or counter them. Lots of kids roam in this game, but containing them would be impossible, so... Just live with it.

I told an 11 year old the other day that the police would come and get him for being underaged... He seemed strangely calm about it....

@Dragneel-Wiki

Tell me what's nesseccary for a topic, a question before an assault or the day after an assault?

Not all the people knows what they are suppose to do. The only thing they should do is read the rules that said what to do and 'we', for certain players like us, is to consult them what to do too, in a good way.

------------------------------

As Blade-Of-Grass stated about the Terms of Service, ye can choose to condemn this child away from the virtual game or let him loose to explore what to do. To be honest, if ye're experiencing such problem, it's their fault for not having a parental guidance accompany the child that plays a teen-rated game. And as from our point of view, we rather choose to appeal a ban and strictly prevent children under the age requirement to play this game and suggest game genres and themes that is for 'everyone'. If ye're a man of mercy then we don't blame ye, ye can choose to give space but listen well if ye care, they might learn things they weren't suppose to be for them, not until they're older.

So... Ban him and bury the thread in the Graveyard?

I'm a man of mercy. Banning him from a 13+ game for being underage (if he is 7) just feels like punishing the little midget just for being young. Yes, I realize shortar**s like him shouldn't be playing games they aren't old enough for, but it's there's no blood or cussing (well, players cuss), and besides, when it comes to this sort of thing, I find that the age restriction isn't really a barrier in any tangible form, and is something that I guess I can't quite get my head around.

I'm rambling again, aren't I?

Point is, I don't know what he'd find out now (in game, minus player cussing) that's so bad that he'd have to be 13 to find out without... I don't know, mental scarring? Wetting his pants? Soiling them, maybe?

Two words for you: Concerned. Parents. The ToS rules are basically there to placate parents after their 6 y/o has learned how to call people "[INSERT CENSORED WORD HERE]". Raging and trying to blame anything but their bad parenting, they try to complain about the game but they can't because they've just realized that the age restriction for the game is 12+, so technically it is their own fault.

Also, I think it is the law to have these age restrictions (not really sure though).

Then I would ask ye back if ye're a parent, what will ye exactly do to yer son/daugther if this kind of issue was similiar to this one?

I give choices for ye, choose.

1. Allow children to continue playing, give space and do not take responsibility.
2. Allow children to continue playing, give space, but provide guidance.
3. Strictly prevent children from playing teen-rated games until older.
4. Never allow children to play games.

It'll be based on how yer parent teach ye and yer younger ones for which ye choose, tells ye how ye received parental intelligence from yer parents and will also be influenced to generations.

There are parents who play this game also provide parental guidance to their children. I know but not much, yet it does.

Since the ToS isn't like the actual law where you can get arrested for not telling the police about a crime that you could have helped prevent... do whatever you want I guess :P

This game should be E10+ because other than wolvers and LD noobs this game isn't too violent (ammo guns are still part energy). Or there could be a "child mode" where either chat is disabled and can't be seen or you won't meet other knights. I learned more about economics here then on Khan Academy :/ .

@Boggywoggy

Either 2 or 3. For a game like Spiral Knights, parents just need to teach kids not to hang around in Haven too long. For WoW, keep them away from even the ads.

Wasn't there a thing in the ToS where it said, "Spiral Knights has recently acquired a Mature rating"?

Venomousbiohazard: I think it is the law, considering there's ratings on all games. As for bad parenting... I'm not gonna go into that: let's just say I know there's worse things you can do than let a 7 year old play on a 13+ game, which is quite tame in comparison.

Thunderbog: I'm not a parent, but I'd probably go for 2 if they're in the eve of their teens. Ten or under, 3. Though it'd probably depend on the game itself.

Usevnsevnsixfivfor: This game should be E10+ because other than wolvers and LD noobs this game isn't too violent

Wolvers, violent? Seriously?

Redlawlsy: I dunno.

I think I'll leave him be. He's not doing any harm, right? He's not hurting anyone just by existing, is he?

If you feel it's necessary

If you feel it's necessary then report. Otherwise don't sweat it, it isn't your fault he's underage.

Oh don't make such a fuss about it, OOO hardly cares to ban people for being "underaged" and he was probably lying anyway.

Oh boy... I come across these kids EVERY DAY... asking for handouts one way or another. There's really no way to get rid of them except to report them and cross your fingers that someone in OOO will actually give a rat's a**.

Truthfully... there's nothing wrong with the game that kids that young can't play it. I mean... I know 8 year olds that play Battlefield 3 and can kick some seerus a**. (Seriously... not to be messed with). But like I was saying.. its not the game itself that's not good for them. It's the older, more mature players, mainly 14+, that make the game... not so nice.

Face it, we're all gamers, we all get pissed off when Basil won't fork over the recipe you need or Vana body-slams you so hard that you can't tell your a** from a hole in the ground, but what happens then? We curse, swear, rant and other things using the /me command. This is why the atmosphere for the Spiral Knights community is mainstreamed for teenagers and older.

SO... my suggestion is... when they ask for 3k or 5k or whatever the amount is... tell them politely that it would be in their best interests to get off their a**es and start grinding Arcade. Nothing more you can do. And if they keep sending /tells? (OOO did give you the option to IGNORE them /derp).

So with all the basic points covered... let this thread die in peace. RIP
