That sounds really strange actually. I'd try re-installing the game and perhaps seeing that your keyboard is working at all by trying a different keyboard.
Also try alt-tabbing over to the game window. See if you just don't have it selected, but that's doubtful too.
Are you using any kind of special computer hardware? Like a funky keyboard/mouse?

I've never heard of a problem like this from anyone else. You might try asking Spiral Knights tech support. Good luck.
I'm not sure what's wrong. Press escape, and configure the controls? Also try restarting the game?
