My items appear to be leveling up when they shouldn't... the heat screen at the end of the level show that they were not finished... but at the next depth they are full. Is this because of the 25% heat bonus? I am not sure whether or not I even go that for the items in question... I just want to be sure I am not accidentally abusing something...
What I think is happening is that while it shows you heating items up it counts your Pet as an item, so it takes away the heat which it would give to the item. However, what really happends is that the pet doesn't count as an item (which is the way it should be), so you end up seemingly getting a larger amount of heat (when it's really the heat you should be getting on the screen).
