Sorry, didn't patch Steam SK first so go patch for yourselves to see what I mean :3
Oddly, this patch as given me the most SK excitement I've had in a while. I LOVE foreshadowing.

Of course, we haven't even made it to THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PLANET. So our "one small step for knights, one giant leap for Spiral Knights" may not happen any time soon.
Level editor will never happen because everyone will just make one room with 9001 red treasure boxes. TF2 levels are one thing, but because of the economic nature of Spiral Knights you really need to have a designer look at levels to make sure they're balanced.
Then cant they just put a minimum/maximum limit on enemies and treasure boxes?
Not to go off topic, but it's possible Warp. Their just needs to be stipulations and limits.
While your first thought was someone spamming treasure boxes, my first concern was some jerk would have the brilliant idea to make a level all spike floors. Either way you cut it, it's possible but there needs to be rules.
1) Limit the amounts of item/enemy placement and spacing of said things.
It'd be real easy to stick your minerals/ treasure boxes at the start, crack 'em all open, leave and repeat. So that would be a no no, solved by rule of placement and amount of certain things in an area. You want all the treasures? Better explore the whole dang floor.
2) Require community and staff approval.
I don't know how much of approval will be needed, but there should be acceptance on both ends.
3) Bosses are off limits.
No placing bosses in levels. You can have big fights, but no boss, simple as that.
Never say never Mr. Warp-Master. Larry makes a good point-- there are a million ways to make it work.
I would be hoping for some kind of community rating system. Like, the players would make level PARTS or whole levels, and they'd designate this area as "treasure"- then, the other parts would be rated for difficulty, and the treasure would be based off of that.
Great minds think alike, huh? Didn't see yours before I posted mine, but you're on the right track. ;)
They're going to let the players make maps? This thread confuses me? What's the topic about, anyways?
Maybe the moon is where we will use player made levels. Or make them, in a lunar base.
That's probably the best way to go about adding custom content, actually. Can't put them in the Clockworks without breaking some lore somewhere.
EDIT: The reason you can't have custom content that's worthwhile is because to do that you need control of enemy spawns. You can't really let the players do that because they'll make the most profitable combination possible and break the economy wide open. Best case scenario is that players will be able to make modules (referred to internally as scenes) with a limited budget. That's pretty pathetic.
Sooo, they changed the loading screens? Was that it?
Not to ruin the excitement, but uh... y'all know that moon has always been there, ya? It's been in the background art of the website since launch--top right corner, just drag the page all the way out. I suppose making it more prominent on the login page COULD be foreshadowing, just don't want anyone to get disappointed (a'la the core) when, months from now, people are still yelling "WHEN WE GO TO THE MOON, OOO?"
I always wanted to taste moon cheese. And that's good to hear Narfle. Also, in LittleBigPlanet, the moon is where you can create your own levels. Just gonna put that out there.
OR....
Maybe the moon is actually where we came from. Something to think about.
LOL NO, we came from Isora, not a ****** little moon. The skylark (our ship) crashed into whatsthisplanetcalled again.

the moon has always been there, you can even see it in the sky when you're creating a character
i'm more curious about why the moon has a large chunk blown out of it (maybe the skylark crashed into the moon?)
Could this be #10, Nick?
You said that you would make some content regarding #10.
You also said that it is something that we see everyday. (I think the announcement was before SK went to Steam, so when you log in, you would have to see the background with the moon.)
The moon is pretty darn big. As you stated that #10 would be.
Just a shot in the dark, to make sure we're not missing an opportunity to guess.
...I want to find the orbital elevator that takes me to the ring around the planet! I can just think of it as one long deconstruction zone level. Gremlins and mech knights as far as the eyes can see!
The moon?
We are dead! Everyone panic!
AAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!

My thread is a little diffrent cuz of a diffrent theory, but i didn't notice someone had already made a thread about it, soz guys! Heres the link to the thread though: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/87687
I don't think this will be here soon. but if it does, there should be NO trasure boxes or minerals in my opinion to prevent exploits. the reason for playing custom levels is for fun, not profit. not saying you should get NO money from it. monsters should drop loot as usual, but I can still see a problem with it. someone can make an all-kat level for the black kat events.
@Usevn
Why you link up Ben? His picture is something not to--- Bahahahahaha!
I hope not. The moon would be just like the normal clockworks.... I want a level editor!
