Some missions have a silver shield with one sword on the corner. Some have a gold shield with two swords? What does it mean? It can't mean difficulty because I played everything on elite but it still shows silver shields.
It can't be number of players, because some missions that are solo only still have the gold shield.
There seems to be no explanation in-game that I've found...
I give up. What do those Mission icons mean??

I just completed the final Hall of Heroes mission again on elite.
The Missions menu still shows one sword.

I think the silver one, means it's an actuall mission and the gold one means it's briefing or does not require you to fight (alchemy)

My guess is that briefing missions are already gold because there is no difficulty. I completed hall of heroes on elite and the gold shield symbol showed up on the mission complete box. It seems that Three Rings may have forgotten to allow the symbol to change on the mission select screen for previously completed missions though.

Sir-Greenlink should be correct. It should seem that when I beat White Collar Captives on "normal" difficulty that I received a bronze mark. Shame I can't go back and redo the entire game to get the pretty gold ones.

You can replay the talking missions. And I have a bronze on todays prestige mission with the devilites, which I know I did on normal.

I think it is indeed difficulty, but it doesn't update for already-completed missions until you relog.

indeed, gold swords mean the mission was completed in elite, silver mean normal and bronze easy. i tested it with a quick mission in elite mode, once the mission was completed in "elite mode" i got the message of mission complete with the gold medal, but wont update my "mission medal" until i relog again in the game, so i relog and got the gold medal. so yes the medals mean which mode you completed the mission.

I thought it meant the number of deaths you have.
I completed the daily kat mission on elite and got a gold shield/swords, my daily mission which was already complete only got silver shield with sword.
