So in a guide I read it said for you to get a calibur/cutter and a colbalt helm and armor and a defender shield. In game I saw many people have this combination. Why is that?

It's easy to get but I don't recommend it, it's much better to just buy the items you want from other players, since most two and three star stuff is still tradeable.
I'd craft 2-star stuff for you but I don't know when I will be able to log-in again.

The guide...
That guide is -badly- out of date with the latest update to the game. You can now get 2*equipment from the auction house -cheaper- than having someone craft it for you, that is, cheaper than it costs to make. People looking for UVs are dumping their non-unique swords into the auction house at bargain prices, so pick the 2* gear you want to get into Tier 2. I -do- recommend that you use things that can upgrade to 5*. Calibur is the only thing in Kozma's gear that I use, although I hear that her gun and bomb line is all right. Armor and shields, not so much.

Calibur is great.
Blast Bomb is good, once it's at the 3* version and higher.
Blaster is kind of weak.
Cobalt armor and Defender wastes almost half of their defenses on Piercing damage, which barely exists. At least Wolver Coat gives bonus damage with swords... Cobalt doesn't even do that.

The Master Blaster is
The Master Blaster is actually kind of nice. The Master Blast Bomb is excellent.
Kozma's equipment tends to be very basic but at least it's widely available (and if you're crafting, all the recipes all the way to 5* are always present in Kozma's inventory), but the weapons are quite good, and the armor you can live with until you find the right armor line for you.
