So I fought the guy only once back during the first appearance of the event and it all went by faster than I could realize what the random party invite was about so I'm unclear on some details.
Margrel drops the Black Kat Cowl once you kill him?
Previously it went to someone random? or did it go to the one who summoned him?
Now it will go to everyone since loot is instanced?
So then why did I hear about fights because someone didn't give the cowl to the person who had the book?

If that rumor you said were true, there's no way I'm letting anyone join my party. I rather lose in a fight with Margrel than have someone steal my mask.
That's why I didn't understand why I got a random invite.
Terra here. I have come with info that will satisfy you.
During the first Kataclysm event, the cowl was randomly distributed to one of the party members. The summoner did not automatically get the cowl. A later patch during the event, however, changed it so only the summoner could get the cowl.
That rumor was not a rumor. It was true.
I am surprised this fact was not mentioned in the wiki.

Well I never got the book so I wouldn't really be sure to know either way lol
The knight who used the book is the one who got the cowl.
