In comparison to the ASI/DMG perks, Healthy Boost or even the defense perks (piercing, normal) are the status resist perks worth putting on? The most I've seen out of them is that they reduce the status effect by about 2 seconds. Would it be more efficient to put on a different perk that would instead allow me to kill enemies faster?

Usually no, either go for Weapon bonuses, or Health Boost.

You should pick these perks only on special occasions, like a Shadow lair.

If it's a danger mission, yes.

Otherwise not using MSI is just silly.

In my opinion status resist

In my opinion status resist perks have their uses, but only in places where you really care about the status. If you think of status resist in points, with 5* armor's status resist as 4 points, a low UV as 1 point, medium UV as 2 points, etc, then the top-tier perks are worth 3 points.

To actually feel like you really resist a status well, you want around 6 points or more between your helm/armor's natural defense, any UVs they might have, and your perk. So if, for example, you were running FSC and had 4 points of fire resist, then an additional 3 feels quite useful. If you don't have any at all, then 3 points still isn't all that much, but since fire resist is so important in FSC it's probably worth having anyway. In places where you don't care about the status as much as you do in FSC, 3 points of resist alone is likely not worth it.

If you're not sure what you need and you want to gear defensively, it's almost always better to go with a health perk (I wouldn't recommend the typed defense perks, health will be better the majority of the time). If you're not too worried about dying, then offensive perks are your best option. If you're an overpowered endgamer, use MSI.

Of course if you only depend on perks you'll suffer a lot. They are designed to compliment at lest one appropiate piece of armor.
