I'm sorry if this has been suggested before. I searched, but couldn't find anything like it.

What I'm proposing is a Guild Tax. It would work like thus:

Each guild has three tax percentages: One for the Auction House, one for the Coliseum, and one for the Clockworks. These guild taxes would only be able to be changed by a majority vote among active Guild Masters (Active = logged on in the last 30 days). These taxes would apply across the board equally to all guild members.

The three taxes work thus:
Auction House Tax: When you sell an item on the Auction House, you get a mail that gives you the Final Sale Price (FSP), the refunded Listing Fee (LF), and the 10% Auction House fee. The tax would be applied on the PROFIT from a sale, i.e. (FSP-LF-AHfee) * guild tax.
Coliseum Tax: When you win a Coliseum match, your profit on the match would be taxed, i.e. (winnings - 200) * guild tax. This would almost never be more than 50 crowns.
Clockworks Tax: When you do a run anywhere in the clockworks, the tax would be applied only to the number of crowns earned.

Any tax a knight pays will go into a "bucket", and will be deposited into the guild coffers immediately before the weekly rent is due. Guild Masters would be able to view the amount in the "bucket", but would not be allowed to remove or deposit crowns directly to it. When the bucket is deposited, the guild records would show how much each knight put into the bucket. For example, "Jamesh was taxed 2,580 crowns (2,360 from Clockworks, 200 from Coliseum, 10 from Auction House)".

My suggested default taxes:

  • Clockworks Tax: 5%
  • Coliseum Tax: 20%
  • Auction House Tax: 5%

My suggested maximum taxes:

  • Clockworks Tax: 10%
  • Coliseum Tax: 30%
  • Auction House Tax: 20%

PROS
Communal Effort. If a small guild wants to be able to have an Auction House in their guild hall, but nobody can afford it, all members can pitch in.

CONS
Potential Abuse. Guild Masters could use these crowns to squander on guild furnishings nobody wanted.

More possible updates later. Thoughts? Constructive Criticism? Hooting and Hollering?

Nobody would want to be in a guild to have their crowns "taxed"

Besides, guild upkeep is so, so much cheaper that crowns spent on all guild related stuff is likely to be cheaper than before, unless you add a ton of furniture.

I come from a different background than many of you - I am in a very small guild, with only a few active members. For the mega-rich guilds (of which there are many), they can buy whatever they want for their guild hall. But for smaller guilds, none of us can afford those items (such as the 100K cr for installing an Auction House). This allows guilds to choose whether or not to tax. The tax would go into the guild coffers, so it wouldn't go for personal use. I would, for example, be willing to put 10% of all my earnings into the guild, and I know that, over time, this would allow the guild to always have its upkeep paid, and to slowly gather extra crowns for furnishings, expansions, etc.

No, just NO.

I am the one and only boss in my Guild, and I want to dump in crowns when I want to do it.
The thought of taking crowns from the members (officers included) against their will is just plain repelling. Revolting. Disgusting. Abominable.

Any Guild that wants stuff from their members just like that is a bad Guild. Members should only pay for what they want, voluntarily. Membership alone is not something that's worth paying for, not in any Guild.

i see where you're coming from with this

Not to attack you or your guild, but isn't the main problem of small guilds the inability to retain members? Thus, a tax, even if it is an option to enable or not, would simply push players out of your guild for not wanting to deal with it. Sure, you could make it a majority vote of guildmates from ranks of members and up. But then the people who vote yes to the tax are generally the ones who wants the guild to have their crowns or ones who feel like the % will not make a dent in their income. And what if your members are from all over the world, and not many of you will be online at the same time? If you change it to current online members, it's easy to have a minority vote against what a majority of the guild would want.

Another point, having a majority of guildmasters in order to change the % being taxed means that either one person has what seems to be a tyrant position. Or a guild with 2 gm, where noone can decide what % to set the tax at. I'm not experienced in many guilds, but the few I've been in, I've never seen more than 2, and 3 just last week in the guild I'm in. It's a minor point though.

Definitely an amazing idea. Just think, how many members of guilds (recruits, members, veterans) actually put things for the upkeep?

Here: Let me change this a bit. There should be an option to let you have automatic tax. For example, you tick the "Tax Funds" to support the guild. It should be entirely optional.
