i'm having a really weird bug in the main menu of the game, the letters are no showing or are displayed as a black box.

(i'm running on a Intel Celeron with 1.80GHz,2gb of ram,my video card is a intel g33/31 express chipset family, and the processor is a intel gma 3100.i had updated my card about a week ago.)

Your the first person I've

Your the first person I've heard of trying to run this game using an Intel 3100 for graphics. Note to others: this is not the same as the Intel X3100 in many laptops. This part lacks some hardware acceleration components (vertex shaders) that could cause trouble. Though that is moving beyond my knowledge. The GPUs in Intel integrated systems are pretty laughable until you hit the X3000, you may be simply under spec.

What is the operating system you are running and did you get the driver update from your PC manufacturer or directly from Intel? Is the game playable aside from the letters?

A GMA X3100

A GMA X3100 (laptop I'm guessing you have) should be quite playable. Albeit, there are some lighting issues that show up at times which is a symptom of the video system, not a game flaw. I sometimes play on my laptop which uses it. Here's my setup for you:

  • OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit
  • CPU: Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz)
  • RAM: 4 GB DDR2-667
  • GPU: Intel GMA X3100 (965 Express)
  • Display Driver Version 15.12.4.64.1666
  • Java Version 6 Update 23
  • Display Mode: 1024x600
  • Graphics Quality: Low
  • Compatibility Mode: On

Make sure you have the GMA X3100, the regular GMA 3100 is actually very different and no one, so far, has posted a success story about it. Also, when using Integrated Graphics you need to have more RAM than normal as these systems do not have their own dedicated display memory.

Nice necro, next time please

Nice necro, next time please make a new thread.

Use these instructions to obtain the most up to date drivers possible for your computer. Please note that the GMA 3100 is observed as below minimum spec and smooth gameplay is not guaranteed.

Dogrock setup is very accurate! :)

I can play this game all maxed out without laggs or getting slow :D
I have a laptop with these specs:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32bits
CPU: Intel Core2Duo T7500 2.2 Ghz
RAM: 2 Gb 667
GPU: Intel x3100
Drivers and java are the latest version avaiable!

My sugestions are: if you are using Vista or XP update to Windows 7, since its much better and light; update your graphic and java drivers; disable the steam overlay in the game; go to the spiral knights directory and look for the "javaw" exectutable, right click on it and in its properties disable themes and desktop composing; DO NOT use game booster!!!
Any Intel GPU is complete crap, for light or heavy games, but if you use some softwares and tweak your graphics software you might get good fps

Any more doubts, do not hesitate to contact me ;)
