So, imagine that there was a new building in Haven, probably right next to the upcoming un-bindery. You step up to the guy, and click, and you can now forge up your gear. But it ain't cheap, and it has some requirements and side effects...

Here's what you'd need
-The item to be forged would need to be level 10 (complete!)
-You would need the recipe to make the item.
-You would need all the mats, crowns, and energy that would be used to craft the item in the first place (if you have a Levi Blade to forge, say, you'd need the stuff listed in the Levi Blade recipe.)

You would then
-Pick a UV. If the item already had a UV, you could only pick that one.
-Pay the crowns, mats, and so on.

You would get back
-The same item, reverted to level 1.
-With one added level of the chosen UV (Low -> Medium -> High, etc.)
-Still bound to you.
-With one level (or added level) of the drawback "Reforged".

The reforged drawback
-Would appear in red, just like the movement penalty on ancient plate.
-Would stay with the item right along with the UV if it were upgraded (or could be lost along with the UV, as desired; same ticky as usual).
-Would alter heat gain of the item, and cost to forge further, as follows:

Low: Heat gain is halved; materials needs to forge again are doubled.
Medium: Heat gain is divided by three; materials needs to forge again are tripled.
High: Heat gain is divided by four; materials needs to forge again are quadrupled.
...And so on.

What would this do?
-It would let everyone get in on the UV 'game' to some extent.
-'Natural' UVs would remain awesome; a medium UV gained from alchemy would still be wicked great, since it cuts down on the number of forge attempts you need to hit supreme levels.
-It would eat up loads of mats, energy, and crowns. Maybe not as many as job-lot-alchemy for UVs, but across many more players.
-Probably have loads of other odd market effects.

....So.

Whaddaya think?

Also, for those inclined to

Also, for those inclined to do the math:

Yes, this system would mean that it normally be very, very silly to forge anything but a 5-star item - why would you want to gain all that heat repeatedly?

But I didn't suggest it as being only open on 5-star items because: PvP ranks from beta. If they came back the same way.... That would mean you might want to build up some high-UV, but low-star, equipment.

I like this. I would say

I like this. I would say make the only drawback (aside from restarting at level 1 and having to come up with all of the materials and crafting/reforging fee for that item) be that reforged items cannot be unbound. Natural UVs would still be awesome, but now everyone has the chance to make their own ultimate UV with time and effort. Crafters can still farm for that ultra-UV, but those of us who don't or can't pay through the nose for such UVs can use Reforge to get that UV through effort- and progress would be gradual. This is key- give players a sense that they are progressing. Even if it ultimately costs more to reforge a CTR Ultra Divine Avenger than to outright buy it from someone who rolled it naturally, players feel like they are being productive as they go through CTR low, med, and high. The sword also become incrementally better with each reforging, which adds to the sense of accomplishment.

I'd say, instead, to scale up unbind costs right alongside the forged drawback... Which means that as you reforge, unbind costs also go through the roof.

Eliminating the option altogether rewards the whole account-selling thing. Since they can't be *sure* of killing all such transactions, better that OOO get the cash and the transaction be incorporated, however hugely, than farming it out to some account-seller-guy.

I like this idea. It makes

I like this idea.

It makes the process of improving your gear more flavourful - so rather than everyone running around with the same optimised items, every Knight's gear is unique and tailored to their own personal preferences. All it needs is the option to give your gear a name and it'd be perfect. Or incorporate the upgrades added into the item's name or description, kind of like how Diablo had different labels based on an item's effects.

Majikos' Thrice-Forged Ascendant Calibur of Beast-Slaying, f'rinstance. A legendary blade fit for a true warrior. :D
