Why Spiral Demo Helm have the term Demo? What means it?

The unique thing that I thought was "Demon". But the helmet apparently don't have any relation with this.
What "Demo" means?

I'm just curious.

I'm a black, scotish cyclops. They got more good demomen than the likes of me.

Or...

If I was an Engineer, then I wouldn't be a good demoman, now would I?
