I mean if someone bids 2,000 and another bids 4,000, shouldn't the 2nd bidder only pay like 2010 crowns? or whatever instead of the whole 4,000 crowns?

Umm... only the highest

Umm... only the highest bidder wins. Therefore, if person A bid 2000 and person B bid 4000, person B wins and pays 4000.

I never heard of an auction

I never heard of an auction working like that so no, whatever you bid is what you pay.

It's called a "fair bid"

It's called a "fair bid" iirc, but it is only used in blind bidding.

When you bid, you're making

When you bid, you're making an offer on the item, saying "I will pay this much".

If you don't want to pay that much, don't offer to pay that much.

A lot of online auctions

A lot of online auctions recognize that people have better things to do than sit around, waiting for a 2 day auction to end at some vague time in the future. People place their maximum bid, and if that bid is the high bid, they pay one bid increment above the next highest bidder. Ebay calls this "proxy bidding", and it is similar to the Vickrey auction format.

The SK CE market system is patterned after the YPP doubloon market, and therefore is much better thought out. If you type in that you want to buy 100 CE at 8000cr, it will correctly refund you the difference between what you offered and what the highest seller was offering.

It really isn't clear what the rules on the SK auction is. Instead, it appears that OOO is relying on players to do their work for them by documenting stuff in the wiki. The current information there, is, of course, wrong. Maybe someday players will donate enough of their time to do basic documentation for OOO.

Never used Ebay before so

Never used Ebay before so this is the first time I've heard of that but I have played tons of games that have AH and none of them ever worked like that.

Proxy Bid

It's called proxy bidding. It's standard fare for real-life online auctions (whereby the auctions take more than a few minutes and participants are not in the same room), of which eBay is merely the most well-known.

Basically, you're saying "I can't sit here 7 days straight for this auction to end, so eBay, please bid for me. The most I'll pay is $4000, please bid the minimum amount up until that point."

Maybe put in a suggestion

Maybe put in a suggestion then cause that does sound nice though I know Three Rings wants us to sink as much CR as possible into the AH.
