Volcanic and Ironmight are both straight upgrades to the Ancient? (Based on their stats, just want to make sure)
Does the Ironmight withstand more hits from T3 Slimes or Beast than Dragon Scale Shield or Aegis?
Ironmight shatters from Vana's mace, while Volcanic survives?
Heard that Plate shields are the best shields for Unknown Passage, because of the normal damage. Is this still true?
Plate Shields, Some Questions
I know about that the bar can go beyond the limit on the stat, that's why I'm asking which one has more normal resistance. I have plenty of shields, and specialized normal damage is like the only thing I don't have. I have BTS, Aegis, and Dragon Scale, which are against Ironmight, but I also have CoA and Grey Owlite. Just trying to figure it out, which Plate could have more uses to me. But I might go with Ironmight because of it's looks, if the Normal resistance is the same.
APlate is cheaper than Volcanic, especially if you're running FSC runs for CR and left the shield last. It's not quite as good, but it's hardly terrible.
youll probably find more uses for volcanic plate than ancient, tho. volcanic can tank a bit more, even without its set-specific elemental defense.
I see, thanks. Though, I already have an Ancient one, so, the main question was if I should get the Volcanic or Ironmight next.
That's kind of a no-brainer. Get the one which is most different to Ancient Plate.
TL;DR (how long ago did I last see that?): Ironmight.
Volcanic Plate Shield is useless because GOS does a MUCH better job. While you have less Normal defense and no Stun defense, you get Shock defense and a LOT of Elemental defense, which makes Gun Puppies much easier to block.
However, if you must upgrade, go for Ironmight because it has as much Pierce resist as a BTS with lots more Normal defense and Stun resistance.
The ironmight protects from a slightly different array of damage compared to ancient. The volcanic, however, seems to be better than the ancient. But the normal bar could be longer on the ancient, perhaps someone has already tested this somewhere. A seemingly maxed out bar could actually extend further than what the limits suggest.
The ironmight has less piercing but more normal compared to the aegis. The dragon scale has piercing defence equal to the aegis. The ironmight should hold up better than the dragon scale, at least at the lower tiers. Mobs deal more specialized damage as the depths go deeper, so the normal defence on the ironmight theoretically becomes less and less useful. Against turrets, the aegis and dragon scale should better due to the pure specialized damage. The same thought of reasoning goes with comparing aegis and ironmight. Do you want the normal defence, which may be substantially higher? Or does the piercing component of the attack deal more damage?
Ironmight has a piercing defence over volcanic. Volcanic has fire resist over ironmight. Vana mace deals stun, resisted by both shields, and fire, which only volcanic resists.
