How come only ONE PERCENT got Dauntless Delver? Hell, AN ENTIRE THIRD of steam players never even made it to the rescue camp! What gives?

Because most new players don't even know Arcade exists and currently existing players only care about profit.

You only need to get it once. "Profit" will be around for all eternity. Also I don't care about profit, does that mean I'm not an existing player?

Still doesn't explain why theres so many quitters.

Firstly, profit is profit, I see people running FSC constantly all the time. THAT'S A LOT OF CROWNS I COULD BE WASTING DOING SOME ACHIEVEMENT WHEN I COULD BE EARNING MONEY. (Also, I meant to put 'most' existing players, it was a typo on my end)

Quitters happen because:

A) There's no appeal to the game to new players, it happens, you can't expect every person to love it. The people who clearly haven't made it past the Rescue Camp don't see the appeal in the game and quit.

B) There's no actual content updates. Sure, pets are nice but there's nothing new to run: Once you hit end-game and get that 5*.... then what?

Nick is more worried about trying to get more players to join than the currently existing fanbase that he has. Which is understandable since who doesn't want more people playing?

C) The game is all about grinding now. Kinda seems much more that way than what it used to be. (At least in my opinion) I enjoyed the games prior to when the Mission UI came and even the Auction House. Later on, most new players I see are more worried about grinding and getting to the highest tier instead of just cruising through the game and enjoying it.

This isn't unique to SK. Check out just about any Steam game.

No appeal? they weren't even trying! It's like playing super mario bros, then quitting after 1-1. Hell, it's like quitting before you're even at your first flagpole!

The stats were like that before free elevators. All those who gave it a try the past two years aren't magically coming back right now that elevators are free.

My game crashes when going to depth 0 because I'm logging in with the facebook glitch. This computer doesn't even have steam installed. I know it's the account because I can go there with alts.

Batabii: Normally there used

Batabii: Normally there used to be around a tops of 2k players in SK from Steam. It jumped up to almost 4k when the sprites came. I'm pretty positive there has been more than 4k players on Steam to simply TRY SK. Also, I'd be willing to bet the 2k added players were mostly returning players who already had these achiements. But there is also the fact that right now there has only been a tops of 3k, which means the update didn't interest 50% of the non-normal SK players.

It's not hard

I have this achievement and I got it before the free elevators update. Just find a gate that doesn't have many compounds.

Honestly, I've played my fair share of games and haven't even made it past the first 20 minutes. An example is Prototype. After those first few minutes I got bored and just never played it again. (luckly it was rented so)

Sonic Generations is another example, I finished that 100% and yet I see people who won't even pick-up after the first set of levels. Does that give me the right to harass them that they didn't "Try hard enough"?

Do some people like it? Yes. Does that give them the right to say I "didn't try"? Just because I didn't enjoy a game? Not really. If someone doesn't like something, you shouldn't push them and say they haven't even tried because they clearly took their time and luck into jumping into a single game out of every single other game just to give it a try. To take the plunge into something they're not used to and something they've never even tried. And honestly? That's trying in my book.

Reverse to 2012

I got all of the "no death" ones and "cradle and all" in one run. (Bronze survivor in 2011 lol). My nephew got dauntless in 2012 also.

Here is proof my steam

The ".1%" might or might not be accurate.

Numbers can be fun

There's some other assumptions we can make from this data. Take for example the achievement "5-Star Smith" which ranks in at 1.3%. We could conclude that 1.3% of ALL STEAM accounts created for Spiral Knights are veteran players. Or we could use the "Go Deep" Achievement as a yard stick too.

So the First Steps achievement is at 67%... well the beauty of F2P games is that you can really try them out risk(and cost) free. Perhaps the other 33% created their characters, started playing, and decided right away that this wasn't for them, so they exited & never gave it a second thought. So their account languished.

these numbers you see on the Global Stats page have to be taken with a pinch of salt (proverbially, not the mission :P). The question of how many players free elevators will bring back is a much smaller percentage given the numbers we see here... Drops in the bucket so to speak.

But I can at least say that I'm part of the 0.1%.. heehee. my two cents.

.

That's also only the steam players right? There's plenty of players that don't play through steam that aren't being counted in that, although I don't imagine aggregating all the sources of players would make a big change in the percentages. You're always going to have way more people who try out the game and don't like it than you are going to have players who like it enough to get all the "hard" achievements.

Also, it's not a matter of "not trying" it's a matter of "I don't like this game so I'm going to stop playing now." Spiral Knights isn't everyones cup of tea, and that isn't a bad thing.

Issues with Steam

I don't know if this is why, but it may contribute to it. Back when F2P games first came to Steam, it said many, many people had the games who didn't even know the games existed. I don't know if this issue was ever fixed, or whether it really contributes to the false stats, but it might affect it.

Well I sure hope so, that makes a lot more sense than the alternative.

Still that only excuses the FIRST achievement. It doesn't make sense for people who have First Steps but NOT Welcome Stranger.

A lot of people don't care

A lot of people don't care about achievements. That one in particular takes a couple hours & a fair amount of skill to get.

1/8th of the players who were serious enough about Spiral Knights to reach the core has gotten this achievement though (it's actually 0.14%, rounded down). That's a lot more than I'd have expected. The crazy part is how many people turned in 10,000 minerals. I'm surprised that ain't 0%!

@batabii

1. not everyone is you, and not everyone feels as you do. That explains the other 33%

2. Remember the steam event, throw a snowball in LD? That's the people who never got hello stranger, or a portion of them.

3. People who wouldnt pay to get past the grind to 5*. Wasn't worth the time.

There you have it, valid reasons. Also, post #21 is another set of reasons.

The throw the snowball Steam

The throw the snowball Steam event and the Firecracker event made a very large jump on Steam of people that installed SK, but never played again once they got the achievements. Meaning your numbers are off from the start if you are using Steam as your guide.

Another thing... achievements aren't worth anything. You don't even get 1cr for doing an achievement. Couple that with DD being the hardest one, and longest also, to get in SK and you have a large amount of players that aren't going to get it for various reasons. Even with elevators being free that's not going to change.

I have it on my main account. My Steam account doesn't as I have no incentive to go for it on that one.
