There have been a few discussions on this topic. Pretty much, if you like slow two-swing swords you will bee more complete if you get both eventually.
Avenger is a more well-rounded sword since it has elemental damage. Also the charge attack of the Divine Avenger is very useful.
Conversely, if you don't already have a sword you love to use in the Royal Jelly Palace, then the Faust is a good choice since it deals some heavy damage to slimes. The normal attacks have a slight chance to curse opponents, and since curse is one of the best status effects in the game it is really great when it hits. The charge attack can also curse your opponent, but it has a slight chance of also cursing you so use with care or get some curse resistance.
Personally, I started with an Avenger to help deal with Constructs and Undead but quickly did some more JKs to get a Faust too. I still use my Divine Avenger daily, but I've traded in my Faust for an Acheron instead which also deals Shadow damage.
