Which Wolver set best compliments Chaos? And bombs?

I'm crafting my first set of five-star gear. I started with Wolver and now it's Ash Tail, but after seeing a friend wreak havoc in his Chaos, I'm starting to level a Magic set, too. I can dodge fairly well (I can kill the Snarbolax without a shield) and use remedies (and sparks, I've got a lot of those now), so I'm not too concerned about the statuses. But I'm not sure what to craft my Wolver into. Should I craft Vog Cub for the attack speed as well as the Chaos buffs, or Skolver/Snarbolax for different damage resistances? Maybe a mix? I'm pretty sword-heavy, I use a Dark Thorn Blade, Blazebrand, and Faust, and I have a Silversix I use when I'm low on health. I'm not a big fan of bombs, but bombing with Chaos seems like it'd be pretty great with that charge time reduction, so maybe I'll pick up a bomb in the future, too (my friend was spamming Dark Briar Barriage and was stunlocking and killing arena Greavers before they could even get close!).

But yes. If I have Chaos, what kind of Wolver gear should I craft with it, and if I were to start crafting a bomb, what kind should I get?

Short tip for now, since its late

I'm sure other people will chime in with a more detailed post in a couple hours.

Go skolver, or snarby if you can easily obtain it. Reason being that it you were to finish out a full wolver set, then switch to part or full chaos in the future, you'll be familiar with the offensive bonuses. That means if you were to build trinkets around a damage+ set, it will likely be a ASI trinket. If you had vog before chaos, you would need damage trinks which becomes less valuable as you move into a chaos set. Meaning that you would build two trink sets when you can only use one set at a time.

Not to mention vog and chaos are both elemental. Minor details, but worth noting.

It is late, I'm heading to bed now, heh.

Hm, you have good points. I wasn't planning on getting any trinkets though, I'm in that boat that stubbornly refuses to buy something that'll only end up expiring, even if the bonuses are nice and 30 days is a long time. And I noticed Vog Cub and Chaos are both Elemental, that's my main concern with adding Vog Cub's attack speed for buff variation. I feel like I shouldn't immediately eliminate Snarbolax from all considerations just because it's more difficult to get, I'm sure I'll be strong enough to craft it in the end, so I'm leaning right now towards a piece of Vog Cub and a piece of Snarbolax to mix together with the Chaos, and switching depending on the situation. Is Piercing defense worth ignoring though?

Faust is a pretty slow weapon so it'd benefit a lot from Vog. I can't even use slow swords without at least High ASI myself nowadays. DTB and Blazebrand are fast and mid-fast, respectively so you'll want damage on them. Additionally, having a good amount of charge time on a Combuster makes it the most rofl-stompy sword in the game.

I'd recommend that you just try to get a full Wolver set and a full Chaos set so that you can mix and match. For your first set, I'd recommend Chaos and Vog in combination as Vog is a great defensive piece. Piercing is indeed pretty meh. Jellies and Beasts are silly easy in comparison with the rest of the enemies.

As for bombs, here are some great ones to begin with:

  • Nitronome
  • Dark Briar Barrage
  • Shivermist Buster (if you don't have Blitz)
  • Ash of Agni
  • Dark Retribution (if you have O:CH)

I'm not a bomber myself, so I'll let someone else go into more depth on it.
You should read the guides on the Wiki as well as Bopp's sword guide. You'll find them on these three URLs:

Ehhhh

Just make both pieces Chaos.

Otherwise, I'd go for Vog and use it as training wheels until you get used to having a large amount of fire weakness.

I recommend Dark Briar Barrage for everyone. It's excellent for gremlins, fiends, beasts and undead. While having one DBB in a fiend arena is nice, two is what is it takes to make the arena easy. Nitronome is also powerful and versatile enough to let you do anything.

Electron Vortex would compliment your Blazebrand nicely. Gather the enemies up in a single spot and then unleash a Blazebrand charge.

Venom Veiler is excellent if you ever find yourself annoyed at gremlin menders. Even if you have a Maskeraith, quills are pretty dubious against mecha knights due to their shield.

all are good

Krakob: Thanks for including a link to my sword guide.

Japhetcakes: In the armor section of my sword guide, I discuss the general principles of ASI/CTR vs. damage bonus, as well as piercing vs. elemental defense. For your specific situation, I assume that you're using Barbarous Thorn Shield? The other option is Swiftstrike Buckler, but its protection is terrible. So you've got Chaos and BTS, for damage+4 and CTR+4. You also have a sprite perk to use. Your Combuster and Barbarous Thorn Blade benefit from CTR; your Gran Faust doesn't really (because the charge time is so slow, that charging is just plain inefficient). Even if you go for Vog Cub, you'll have only ASI+2, and you'll want to get ASI UVs on your swords, if you can.

All options are good, but if I must pick one, here is my advice. Do you plan to do Shadow Gloaming Wildwoods any time soon? I mean, do you have decent friends, to form a party?

* If so, then get Snarbolax. The shadow defense is highly useful, and the offense is great. Get ASI through UVs and your sprite perk (or get MSI through your perk). Skolver's defense is less useful.

* If not, then get Vog Cub. The fire defense is useful, and the ASI is useful for defense. Get more ASI through UVs. Use your sprite perk for damage bonus, ASI, or MSI.

As you continue to play this game, you might end up with all three anyway. So don't worry about it too much. You'll be fine.

Forget about Vog and get a Volcanic Demo. If you're planning to go hybrid with bombs and don't want full chaos, I'd suggest maxing CTR than a med sword ASI. One piece of chaos isn't the best for bombing (altought it's a nice boost).

Granted you could get the same effect with trinkets or sprite perk.... that's up to you, I don't know what's your situation regarding those.

Thanks for the replies!

Thank you for all the information, it's really helpful. I did forget to mention that I am using a Dark Thorn Shield, and I forgot about sprite perks, that will help with getting attack speed on the Faust. I was contemplating a Votex bomb, but I think I'll go with a Dark Briar Barriage, the Chaos damage boost would be more useful there and I could interrupt fiends and menders with it. I have good friends to run Shadow Lairs with, so I think I will try for Snarbolax, then I can have Shadow defense without feeling the loss in power from losing Chaos. Attack speed would only really be useful in the Faust, so it's probably not worth crafting gear just for that, a swappable sprite perk would be better for that. Thanks everyone!
