I don't have enough mist energy so that might just be why, but I want to know.
Do I need Crystal or just Mist Energy to Alchemize?
I see, man, this game is awesome!
The only thing you can't do with Mist is give it to other players in any way.
So you can't sell Mist on the Energy market.
You CAN, however, use it towards the price to buy slot upgrades from Boost in the Bazaar (near the middle, with an Energy symbol on his mask, next to the Alchemy machine). So a 150-Energy Trinket slot can be purchased for 100 Mist and 50 Crystal; a 250-Energy Weapon slot can be purchased for 100 Mist and 150 Crystal. (Remember that upgrade slots only last 30 days after you use them. It's intended as a CE-sink, though a useful one.)
I guess you could try buying the slot upgrades with partial Mist and then trying to sell them to other players for something like 25 energy less. They spend less energy, and you get to exchange part of your Mist into Crystal.
I haven't seen anyone advertising this kind of service in Trade chat, though.
What ever you do that requires Energy always takes your Mist first, be it going down an elevator, reviving yourself or alchmizing..
Once your out of mist it start to take from your crystal energy.
Lets say you anna craft an item for 200 energy.. and you have 100 mist..
Then the game will take that 100 mist, and 100 Crystal.
