No cons.

Not in my opinion. You can still use your account that you had signed up with here on the site if that's where you did. I don't know if you can if you were playing on Kongregate or whatever. There are a few pros though:
- No need to have parent's permission to use their credit card/debit if you're underage.
Steam uses these things called Steam Wallet funds which you can purchase for an equal amount (at any age) and deposit on your account. Say you want to buy OCH but you know your parents will say no. All you have to do is go to Gamestop, buy a $10 card, deposit the funds on your account, and you're done! Easy as pie.
- Steam Games for E
If you're swimming in pools of E (or cr I guess) and don't know what to do with it, people trade Steam games for E all the time, especially during the Steam Summer Sale
- Trading w/o having to be in-game.
You can look at items in your inventory at any time on Steam and trade with other Steam users w/o having to be in-game. It sounds a bit benign but it actually does come pretty handy, especially if you have the Steam app on your phone and have to be away from the computer but really want/need to make a trade.

Not sure if I got everything here but...

Pros:
+ Steam trading, which means you can get OCH without paying real money (You'll use CE instead)
+ Steam Overlay, which means you can chat, see your achievements, read guides and more without having to Alt-Tab
+ Possibility to trade items from other games (Like TF2 and Dota 2) for CE
+ Easier and shorter update process (Updates download automatically as soon as they're available)

Cons

- Unable to login to that account without using Steam (The facebook login workaround only works with accounts created via Steam)

Converting your Spiral Knights account into a Steam account is not necessary to Steam trade on that account: A faux character can be created on steam and items mailed to it from your Spiral Knights account.

+ Steam Overlay, which means you can chat, see your achievements, read guides and more without having to Alt-Tab

Steam overlay is not exclusive to a Steam Spiral Knights account. You can launch your non-steam version of Spiral Knights through steam to gain access to the overlay. Achievements aren't synchronized though.

+ Easier and shorter update process (Updates download automatically as soon as they're available)

This also doesn't require a Steam Spiral Knights account to take advantage of.

The main problem I have with steam are steam updates, having to wait for updates to download and install are somewhat frustrating when I just want to play games that are already up to date.

Thanks

Thank you all for the responses... If I were to go about making it a steam account what would I have to do?

Install Steam, then search

Install Steam, then search for Spiral Knights and install it

Then open it and login normally, the game should ask you if you want to convert it to a Steam account
