It really annoys me. Lag is slow connection hence The name lag. As in lagging behind. Low frame rate or low fps. Eg. A nitrome or polaris causes latency. Lag is caused by yourself or a crowded or bad server.
It is called LATENCY and LOW FRAMERATE. Not lag.
I always thought lag = latency, and fps lag = low fps ≠ lag.
low fps is not lag in and of itself. But even offline games can have a small amount of input lag, depending on how much processing the CPU has to go through.
Because this is totally my own internet connection: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG4REg0fdHg
Story: Went into danger room with a random, lagged for about 30 seconds, when we came back, no enemies around. Sent in a support ticket, fixed itself 3 minutes later.
Is this lag, latency, low FPS or an intense bug?
I know the difference between lag, latency, loaded bandwidth and bad PC. Do you?
Both of those are types of lag. There's no need to be pedantic, especially when you don't even know what you're talking about.
if u want to reduce some lags ,then follow these steps.
1.go to video settings on SK
2.click video options
3.put compatibility Mode on
4.enable verticle sync
5.Grphics quality:low
there u go ur lag is lesser than usual
Vertical Sync can go both ways. It'll sync your framerate up with your screen refresh. If your framerate is always higher than, say, 60fps, then it'll stabilize at 60 and that saves horsepower and reduces tearing. The issue is when you have less than 60. If you're anywhere between 30-60, then the vsync will chop it to 30, which is a double-edged sword. On one hand, 30fps is lower than 55 fps. On the other hand, 30fps is a lot smoother than jumping between 30-50. Just like with net latency, a stable rate of updating is more important than a fast one when it comes to videogames. Having both is opimal, of course.
You absolutely don't want to enable vsync if you're under 30 fps. 15 fps is a travesty.
Yeah it could be a glitch too. I was lagging and all of a sudden all enemies are invisible.
I meant to say it caused lag
But that's where you are wrong. Polaris and Nitro don't really have to send more data than a sword or anything like that. It causes FPS drop because of the effects, however.
my lag problems aren't related to FPS. When I lag, enemies hit through my shield, dashes suddenly cancel themselves, I get hit nowhere near an attack, and at worst, I get tethered to one spot or enemies walk through walls.
The only time I have low frame issues is when a lot of enemies and attacks are all over the place at once. Also my game freezes briefly every time an enemy or player appears.
How do we fix this?
I don't think you know what latency is. Latency is the time it takes for your computer to communicate with the spiral knights server.A slow connection (client or server side) or living far from the servers causes high latency.
Some people also refer to latency as Ping. They're not exactly the same thing, but most people just playing games don't need to know the difference.
Low frame rate happens because your computer is limited in speed, so it can only draw so many frames every second.
People refer to both as 'lag', so I consider both to be lag. If someone says they're lagging, I'll usually ask "frame rate lag or latency lag?".
Polaris and Nitronome won't cause high latency, but they definitely can cause low frame rates.
This happens to me all the time. What's really fun is when the game turns into a slideshow, you accidentally hit the network switch on your computer, and it magically fixes itself. Then you switch your Internet connection back on, and you lag out and get booted from the game server, and when you reconnect you're rubberbanded to the spot.
Then what do you call it when I have four bars of connection AND playing solo, and suddenly the enemies all freeze and when it unfreezes I'm dead?
