Citing the wiki: "There are five types of mineral that are commonly found in the Clockworks..." Does that mean there are more that are rarer than a Darkfang?
More minerals?!
Krakob, -commonly-, as in possibly implying there may be some we have not seen yet.
commonly is more the rarity of the materials than the fact that there are other types. there aren't other types (for now), and they are found very often, but not always. then they said "write commonly so they have theories that distract them from other things"
Right now I realized that I hate being treated as a guy who spent 2/3 of his SK gameplay time in the Rescue Camp. Sheesh.
Mickmane is actually correct, that's what I meant.
Thunder, all Minerals have equal rarity and that was a small theory. I bet there's tons of these, we just gotta pay attention while reading. It's like the starter sprites topic from a while back.
It doesn't imply there are more than five types of minerals. It implies that the five types of minerals are found commonly. Besides, you shouldn't treat everything on the wiki as absolute truths. Have you seen more than those five minerals? No? Has anyone else seen more? No? Gee, I wonder what that might mean. It couldn't possibly mean that there are only five types of minerals!
Inferno, it's not you, it's them.
That attitude has kept me half-sane through 10+ years of Usenet.
Plus those years really confirm that there are some people who either don't read, or can't read, what they're replying to.
Whether they're just distracted right then, which can happen, or are simply not able to do better, remains to be judged on an individual basis.
Hanging out on the forums, I quickly got a good idea whose posts are what kind. ;P
@Krakob
Has anyone else seen more? No?
How do you know? Maybe they did, but they didn't say anything nor make a picture.
It implies that the five types of minerals are found commonly
Then it needs rewording, because bored people like I will bring it up again over time.
It doesn't imply there are more than five types of minerals.
yes it does, you yutz
@Inferno
How do you know? Maybe they did, but they didn't say anything nor make a picture.
Now you're just being silly. You can't seriously think that there's a mineral type more rare than Darkfang available in the Clockworks somehow.
Then it needs rewording, because bored people like I will bring it up again over time.
Then reword it. It's a community driven wiki, not a religious book.
I guess you should move the thread to Wiki Editors, anyway, since the wording is your problem.
@Thimol
There are five types of mineral that are commonly found in the Clockworks
The sentence states that there are five types of minerals and that they are commonly found in in the Clockworks, nothing else. Please do tell me where you see what implies there being more minerals.
Please do tell me where you see what implies there being more minerals.
in "COMMONLY"
if the sentence said "there are five minerals" or "there are only five minerals" then this wouldn't be up for debate but the use of the word "COMMONLY" implies that there are RARITIES because "COMMON" means "FREQUENT"
was this word thrown in there mistakenly? yes in all likelihood, but that doesn't change the meaning of the word just because we know that there are only five minerals to be found and you're just being a really poorly pedantic yutz and generally unhelpful
This is a prime example of reading in between the lines. I think the OP is over thinking the wording of something meant to be very simple.
This is a prime example of reading in between the lines.
That doesn't mean what I think you think it means.
There is no good reason for implication when the entire purpose is to give simple straight forward information to the reader. No emphasis on the word commonly is apparent nor is there further information to suggest that there are more than 5 minerals. Not to mention here that wiki's can be abused by people and should always be taken with a grain of salt.
Edit: As was said it is a wiki. With a flick of magic I just killed this thread. Being tricky a word was moved because it seemed you were mislead...
There is no good reason for implication when the entire purpose is to give simple straight forward information to the reader.
what
No emphasis on the word commonly is apparent
what the hell does this mean. The word is there, does one just IGNORE it? What the hell does it matter if it's emphasized or not?
nor is there further information to suggest that there are more than 5 minerals.
read the post on "COMMONLY"
Not to mention here that wiki's can be abused by people and should always be taken with a grain of salt.
which is why this thread was made
I personally like this sort of speculation by Thimol. It harkens back to when I was piecing together Dark Souls lore. In Dark Souls, even the location of an item can tell an entire story: From an ocult weapon, meant for killing the Gods, found amongst the belongings of a proud bishop, to a spell used only by maidens of a goddess being dropped by a twisted tentacle creature curled up in a cell, found in a place devoted to the pursuit of knowledge.
@OP
You can debate stuff like Everfrost being another mineral (as well as rock salt). There are also Swordstone, Meteor Motes, and Enamorocks. Not to mention the metals like Primal Ore, Shadow Steel, Sun Silver, Celestial Ore, and Volcanic Iron are all probably processed from minerals (maybe not necessarily from the Clockworks themselves...)
I'm not the one speculating, I was just haranguing our forum residents for the gross disregard for semantics.
You're reading way too far into it.
There are five minerals.
They are commonly found.
If someone told you that "the united states has a president that is elected every four years", do you assume that we also have one that ISN'T elected?
If someone told you that "the united states has a president that is elected every four years", do you assume that we also have one that ISN'T elected?
do you, like, just regularly swallow mercury every morning or what
@Batabii: No, but there are other government officials that we don't elect.
The word commonly is there because they are found commonly. You'll find five chunks of mineral a floor, always. Sometimes even more. Thus, commonly. Anyone gonna tell me where the 6th mineral is or are people just gonna rant about improper wording on the Wiki and then get mad about it and insult others on the forums because you're too lazy to fix it up yourself?
But OF COUSE there are more minerals!
I mean, the game's been out for, what?1 Year?
You would have guessed SOMEONE would have found 1 OR that at least ARCADE GATES WOULD HAVE AN OPTION FOR THIS MINERAL OR that one gate combination wouldn't match out (to create a level, all minerals match out to create every level type in the game)
Gee thanks for opening out eyes.
/sarcasm

"There are five types of mineral that are commonly found in the Clockworks..."
There are 5 minerals. They are commonly found in the CW. There must be other places where we can find them...
OMG other places than the Cradles's clockworks!?!?! Guys, it's confirmed, we're moving to the moon!

Young lady, you have ten seconds to get your tongue back in your mouth or you're grounded!
@Perronius
...you just reminded me of the girl who once beautified my view of Disney Channel, then reduced my childhood to nothing.
The word commonly is there because they are found commonly.
geez, thanks for that; hey do us literate people a favor, once you get around to learning how to read, take a look at this and shut up: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/common
You'll find five chunks of mineral a floor, always.
"five chunks of minerals" is not "five minerals"
Anyone gonna tell me where the 6th mineral is or are people just gonna rant about improper wording on the Wiki and then get mad about it and insult others on the forums because you're too lazy to fix it up yourself?
I like how you conveniently ignored the part where I said that we know that there are no more than five minerals and therefore it was just a mistake on the writer's part. Also why don't YOU edit the wiki if you're the one telling us that just anyone can edit it? I'm not into writing reference material and I don't even look at the wiki, and I AM NOT THE ONE WHO WAS INQUIRING INTO THIS ANYWAY (hint: the first grade is calling your name) I'm just saying it was a mistake but all you want to do is patronize a person with a legitimate question and be overall a crappy person because you can't own up to your lack of knowledge of english and have to cover your butt and project your ignorance on others instead. Perhaps you must have been the one who wrote the damn article? That could be the only reason why you could be so inhumanly hard-headed about this right now.
of course, you'll just keep rambling on because you can't wrap your head around the definition of "common"
But OF COUSE there are more minerals! BLAH BLAH BLAH!
Aren't you the waste of space that posted that bad thread a few weeks back? Did you even read the thread?
The cool thing about F2P games is, unlike retail games, they get pumped by new updates every so often. The game changes into something completely new. Us veterans have seen it happen. Before missions, there was no storyline and we kinda made fan fics by what NPCs said. heck, Gremlins were just Gremlins, not a diverse intelligent class of monster like we now know. Then we got the SWARM update that changed everything we knew about Spiral Knights from that moment on. Mind Blowin Stuff Yo!
Who knows what final Spiral Knights version will be like, if theres one. I do not doubt that they might change Minerals into something different.

You guys do know theres a Wiki Moderator who sole jobs is to get the Wiki right. Yo guys did know this, right? The wiki gets contributed by players AND Game masters alike. Whos to say Nick was the one who put -commonly- in there?
Blame Uncle Sam. The spanish version doesn't imply anything.
-You'll find five chunks of mineral a floor, always.
-"five chunks of minerals" is not "five minerals"
I was referring to that they are common, not that they are necessarily all five minerals. Quit being a jerk anyway, Thimol. Half of your post is insults to me and that's pretty dang low. I was trying to have a mature debate but I see that's not something that interests you.
Krakob, please stop chewing on your DVS while waiting for LD games. It's bad for your brain.
Quit being a jerk anyway, Thimol.
wow pot calling the kettle black much? At least you were basically asking for it because of your own ignorance, while the OP was just asking for info and you decided to be snarky about it, so it pretty much means that this:
I was trying to have a mature debate
is the poorest lie ever. Just go away.
I thought Inferno had just missed one mineral and then called it out for being the silly idea it is ◔_◔
Uncle inferno comes to make all your naughty toughts clear.
it was just a mistake on the writer's part
Nah, I was bored so I decided to do some speculating, the dumb way.
I thought Inferno had just missed one mineral and then called it out for being the silly idea it is ◔_◔
What do you mean that I missed one mineral? And yes, this is a silly idea indeed. I can't believe internet takes my rumblings so seriously *tear slides down my face*
Also, even tough "mineral" is just an item classification/title/whatever, there are some materials that have been mentioned that literally are minerals too, but we don't get them from mineral deposits but rather monsters who gathered them for us.
Not sure what you're rambling about.
There's Crimsonite, Luminite, Valestone, Moonstone, and Dark Matter.
