since yesterday patch im unnable to join SK... a message keeps popping out that i cant reach the files or the download servers.

message: We were unable to download the necessary files after five attempts. You can try running this application again, but if it fails you may need to uninstall and reinstall

Considerations:
- no changes on my machine
- no firewalls
- tryed to log directly from sk website, still no good
- i logged in the morning before the released bugfix on 05/19, it was ok
- appearently, no error logs on spiral folder

My specs are: AMD x2 4400+ / 2Gb RAM / ATI HD 5770 - Windows XP SP3 and the latest 1.6.0 JRE

'Unable to download after five tries'

Bumping this up because I'm having the same problem after the Sep. 9 bugfix.

I'm in the same basic circumstances as orggbr:
It ran just fine before, and then suddenly this happened.
I only have one (configurable) firewall that I'm aware of. I already have it set to forward the right ports.
I made sure that it wasn't a problem based on changed settings.
The only changes there might have been were maybe an update to Steam and a Mac security update.
Yes, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, multiple times.

Different environment. My specs are:
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
3 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Mac OS X 10.6.8
ATI Radeon HD 2400
Java Version: 1.6.0_26 from Apple Inc.

This happens in both 32-bit and 64-bit mode.

I had a slightly different experience with the web and desktop versions. This first hit me as a problem with Steam, where it occurs before it even lets me log in. I had to make a non-Steam SK account to test this, but in the other versions, it works up until my knight reaches the rescue camp, and then I get this error (which shows under the game GUI).

Once, I got this error instead. I don't know what changed, other than I happened to have a different version open (the web-based one, I think). However, updates still weren't working. It would try to update, and then restart itself over, and over, and over, and over... I'd say at least a couple-dozen times with no end in sight. Sometimes it would have more than one instance of the game open at once, up to four that I could see. I finally managed to get it to stop by force-quitting before it tried to update itself. Sometime later, I was just getting the 'unable to download' message again.

Once or twice, before I made a non-Steam account, I tried copying data over from the desktop version and replacing some of what was in the Steam version, since the data appeared to be similar (all Java, a lot of the same files...), but not identical. Yeah, I know, probably not the best idea and whatnot, but since it wasn't loading at all on Steam, and I could always re-install, I figured I wouldn't be losing much, and I was really careful about replacing individual files. Once, I got it to get to the point where I could select my knight, but when selected, a 'entering town' message appeared in the bottom-right corner, but nothing else happened. I haven't tried modifying the files themselves (not enough skill to dare to do that!), just moving over stuff from a version that seemed to work better. Okay, I tried the digest thing once, but there was no change in behavior.

After a lot of the stuff tried above, I tried installing for the first time (through Steam) on a different computer; Dell, P4 (about 2 GHz, IIRC), XP SP3... It worked, no problems that I could see. Still, for various reasons, I'd prefer to get the game working on my Mac – my preferred platform. I think my next test might be copying data from the Windows copy to the Mac one.

At the moment, Steam on Mac

At the moment, Steam on Mac is not entirely stable. Users who upgrade to Lion report far less problems, but sometimes still have issues.
Have you emailed support for an official response?

This is happening with me

This is happening with me too. The download consistently gets stuck at 55%. I'm on the exact same machine since the game launched.

Well... This isn't just on

Well... This isn't just on Steam, the other person is on Windows, I've got about 25 GB of space, and it usually stops after '100%'... So pardon if I don't think those are the case. Sorry if that sounded rude or something; I don't mean it that way, I'm just trying to cover as many variables as I can, and I don't think this is an isolated incident.

Steam does seem to be causing some complications, from what I can tell, but I don't think it's the only thing to look at.

Anyway, I haven't tried contacting support yet. Admittedly, I'm sometimes not sure which route to take when there's both a support forum and a mail-based thing. ^_^; But I suppose it doesn't hurt to cover all the bases. I'll go send a message.

The Support forum is where

The Support forum is where you get help from other players----it is by no means a place to get official advice, but you can learn from other people's experience.

If you want official input on anything, you need to email Three Rings support at support@spiralknights.com

Okay, turns out, at least in

Okay, turns out, at least in my case, it was a variant of the "unexpected end of file" error caused by an antivirus. (Yes, I had antivirus on a Mac, just to be safe.) Anyway, got that out of the way, and it patched just fine. ^_^

Now I've got a different problem. >_>; Time to look around and see if others have encountered it.
