So I have to do vanaduke soon, and i was wondering is this a good set to bring.
Dread Skelly Helmet
Dread Skelly Suit
Dread Skelly Shield
Barbarous Thorn Blade
Polaris
2 Soaking Wetstone Pendant
excuse me if I spelled anything wrong.
Is this good
It's ok, but you might want to consider crafting a more offensive set sometime in the future. Defensive sets like Dread Skelly have very limited utility in T3. Vog Cub is a pretty good set for FSC, as is divine mantle (which is one of the stronger endgame defense sets).
There have been many, many threads on equipment for Firestorm Citadel. Try searching Google for something like "spiral knights forum FSC loadout". The short version is:
You want normal, shadow, elemental, and fire armor. The specific choice depends on how laggy you are, what weapons you bring, whether you're solo or in a party, how experienced your party is, etc. Also, you can trade some protection for offensive bonuses, as Battlegrinder suggested. For trinkets, most players would go for offensive ones.
You want elemental weapons for most FSC monsters, but piercing weapons are better for trojans and Vanaduke's body. Your weapon for Vanaduke's body should be a gun, unless you're experienced. If your party is doing the Shivermist Buster tactic, then your weapon should have a big charge attack, because each time that you break the freeze should really count. Hence Blitz Needle is popular. Many parties skip Shivermist and just use lots of Blitzes. Solo players sometimes use mobile guns such as Polaris, Storm Driver, Argent Peacemaker, Valiance, etc. Weapons with big charge attacks are also nice for trojans and slag guards.
I would never wear Dread Skelly, but it's not bad, so go ahead. I would never wear heart trinkets, but health is helpful, so go ahead. BTB and Polaris are fine, unless your party is doing the Shivermist Buster tactic.
You'll find in time that there aren't sets that are generally useful for all situations. Different sets and different weapons excel more or less depending on status and damage themes of any given depth.
Yes and No. Different weapons are certainly more useful in some places and against some enemies that others, but that's not how armor works. Relying on your armor for defense will get you killed, and specialized to block one type of damage or status will only forestall that. If you want to survive, you need to have the right shield, good dodging skills, and as much offensive power as you can get. The best move is, and has pretty much always been, to get a gear set that lets you hit as hard as possible, and if that means your defense is a little weak, so be it. There's a reason chaos is so popular right now.
The dread set is useful for the majority of the enemies and you might want to get better trinkets if you die a lot (Penta-heart pendants).
