OOO I want answers NOW!
Why is only me tthat the weird thingts only happen too me????
That's the old zombie behavior. It used to be that when Zombies jumped, they'd latch onto you and start biting you, dealing damage and preventing you from doing anything (basically exactly as you described, except doing periodic damage). Now they just do damage when their leap hits you.
My theory is that the old code still exists in some annoying pocket of the game that the dev's can't fully pin down. Normally the invincibility frames caused by the jump dealing damage usually prevent the zombie from grabbing you. However, it occasionally glitches out through lag and stuff.
That's kinda cool... It shoulda stayed like that... Really creepy though...
I saw a zombie about to leap out of the corner of my eye so I tried to dodge it by running. My reaction wasn't quick enough and the zombie grappled me similar to what the redeads from zelda do except it did something that appeared to be headbutting. I didn't really take any damage and moved out of it in a matter of seconds so I didn't really get a good look at the details. To be completely honest I thought my eyes may have been playing tricks on me.
I remember the grab was fairly unreliable. Their leap had to be dead on to actually latch (usually they'd brush right by you). When they did grab you, a single hit would knock them off. So usually, if you were near allies, they'd casually bump the zombie off. If you weren't, there was a brief "Wait what's going on?" moment, followed by you flicking them off with ease. It'd occasionally screw you over if you were like dueling a Trojan.
The current leap is more straightforward, has a better chance to actually damage you, and is just simpler in general.
In my experience, the grab appears when you run up to a zombie's face right after it's jumped, but too late to take damage from the animation.
The nomming won't damage you, but you'll be a sitting duck for other enemies.
it really doesn't do damage? I remember dying because of it.
on a related note, it doesn't stop if you shieldbump the zombie away. yes, it stays in that position midair until you hit it.
I assume you mean that it jumped on you and latched around you, which is what the "jumping" attack for zombies used to be until it was changed to shadow damage. It's a bug when they will do that which happens every now and then, not super rare but still uncommon enough. If it's something else then I got nothin'.
