Just checking to see who plays LD with a gamepad, and if so: gimme advice!
Gamepad in LD
Yeah shieldcancelling is the thing that suffers most for me.
My movement has improved, and my aim will get better but the shieldcancelling is hard..
I do indeed use a Gamepad, there's not much you can give suggestions on on to use your Gamepad, however, I do suggest trying out different preferences to see which suits your style the best, I've always use the original Gamepad layout:
A = Attack
X = Dash
B = Bash
LB = Previous Weapon Switch
RB = Next Weapon Switch
RT = Shield
LT = Strafe
Many people have used this layout and have said that they don't understand how people can play with it. I do suffer from terrible aiming when gunning though.
Shield Canceling does take a bit to get used to, using the Right-Trigger (depending on which gamepad you use, I'm going off of an Xbox 360 one) helped improve mine over anything else and it's just a matter of learning.
There's not much to suggest other than to try different layouts see what suits you the best and just keep trying like Krakob says.
(Though a note of warning, holding both the LT and RT results in a glitch and will cancel both out.)
I used the following layout when my 360 pad was working:
Left stick: movement
Right stick: aim
Face buttons: weapons
D-pad: vials
RT: attack
LT: shield
RB: auto-aim
LB: modifier
Modifier+attack: dash
Modifier+shield: shield bash
Modifier+face buttons: sprite skills
Glacies, regarding that glitch, it's actually a result of RT and LT being on an axis. Truth is, this helps for shield cancelling as it means you can only hold one at a time. Since the 360 triggers are so terrible, I usually don't hold either button awfully far in. They do send input with very little force.
The con of living with this system is that you can't shield charge. You can use Xpadder to bypass this, however. Simply bind the triggers to what you want them to do on the keyboard and/or mouse. You can also set up dead-zones with Xpadder. I think all this should be doable in SK but the programmers must be busy with something else. The current gamepad system might not work with having triggers on different axes, though.
Using the 360 controller as well.
Left stick: movement
Right stick: aim
Face buttons: Sprite+dash
D-pad: vials
RT: next weapon
LT: previous weapo
RB: attack
LB: shield
I'm interested in what you both had to say about the triggers/bumpers though.
Do RB and RT cancel eachother out as well?
Also: I'm on a mac, would the Tattlebogie drivers be on par with microsoft's?
Just got mine fixes and with the sk game option it is really FAST! I use my brandish like a flourish now.
Left stick - movement
Right stick - aim
RB - sprite 1, currently broken
face buttons - vials, dash, sprite 3
LT - shield
RT - attack
LB - next weapon
pad - weapons
yeah I have problems with shield canceling too
RB for a sprite skill? Seems weird to me to allocate such an important button to a (let's face it) lesser used command.
Unless you found a style really dependent on sprites? :D
@sirius: it does work really well with brandishes. dat hack 'n slash >:)
Problems with shield canceling in my case doesn't mean I suddenly can't do it, just means I can't reliably do like say all 3 flourish hits while standing still.
As long as I'm moving it's okay, but for breaking a mineral I fail most of the time /:
Also; why's everybody using triggers instead of buttons for attack/def?
I use my PS3 Gamepad at certain occasions.
L1 = Shield
R1 = Attack
Left Analog Stick = Movement
Right Analog Stick = Aim
Square = Previous Weapon
X = Next Weapon
Triangle = Dash
Circle = Sprite attack 1
L2 = Sprite Attack 2
R2 = Sprite Attack 3
R3 = Shield Bash
D-pad up = Vial 1
D-pad right = Vial 2
D-pad down = Vial 3
D-pad left = Vial 4
START = Attack! (Emote)
SELECT = Defend! (Emote)
L3 = Help! (Emote)
it's because it's been broken for a while, making it hard to press. So I use it for something I don't use much.
I literally just comboed 3 skolver clones with my boltbrand in a row without them being able to even attack ir swing there weps
I do, and I think Glacies does as well. Can't say I can give too much advice. Just practice, don't screw your shield cancels over, and brush your teeth twice a day.
