Why are you still here? Seriously, why?

This is a question aimed more at the veterans who have been with this game at the start (post-beta or pre-beta) and seen it evolve through several, fairly controversial, changes and updates and so on. Why are you still here? Why are you still playing this since it has been launched? Is it the game itself that interest you, or is it some loyalty to OOO? Are there some friends that you wish to keep in contact with, or do you just enjoy trolling all the kiddies too much to stop? Why?

My reason is that I have some various obligation to complete. The current one involves accruing a stupid amount of CE to hire an in-game artist to create an image that I promised for a person since I remembered that my own drawing skills were -1 on a scale of 0 to 10. If I attempt to draw a curve I draw a line instead and vice-versa.
And some various other topics I need to graveyard/finish.

What is your reason?

EDIT: Oh, and Luguiru. That was one funny SOB right there. But since it seems as though he has exited the known universe he/she/it no longer counts as a reason for me to stay.

I was around since the game launched on steam

I recently switched from controller to the WASD control scheme. I don't really have a reason. Just for fun i guess.

EDIT: Got a reason. it's a good break from Osu!, Diablo 3, and elsword. Simple stuff is fun once in a while!

I haven't played continuously since the start... I played for a while, then quit for a couple years, then came back recently. It is a good classic-style action game.

Cause that pit boss keeps

Cause that pit boss keeps snubbing ME for a promotion? those darn devilite underlings must be doing extra work behind my back or something. I thought I'd be a shoo-in after winning the office cook-off!

in all Seerus-ness, I'd say I'm on and off again, though at worst I disappear for a couple weeks. I keep coming back cause of the community for the most part, I enjoy the game play (if I get bored I take a bit of a week hiatus and play some Earth Eternal), and it's fairly interesting to see which direction the game's headed.

relaxation, friends, data, helping

Playing Spiral Knights is relaxing. Some friends in this game are precious to me. Reverse-engineering the rules and mechanisms of the game, by collecting and analyzing data, is a fun puzzle. There are always inexperienced players who need help with their questions.

I ask myself that question everyday I log on and have yet to figure out an exact answer. I have fun. It's a game. Pretty simple. No need to think about it more then that.

That's a rather good question...

TBH, I don't play much anymore. I log on every now and then. Occasionally I buy up my trinket/weapon slots, and come back for a few weeks. Maybe if there is an update or a particular promo, I'll use it as an excuse to come back for a bit.

I've spent about 1775 hours playing this game. When I play, I occasionally see glimpses of what I love in the game, like in Danger Rooms/Missions, and Shadow Lairs. However, lately those glimpses have been growing more and more infrequent. But I can be patient, and I'll wait until something that peaks my interest is added (like the next update!).

I actually like this game...

I played for a good amount of time and took a break last year after my elevator passes ran out. I just started playing again and I like that I can just play without having to worry about mist or pay for anything.

I still find enjoyment farming tier 3 arcade, those moments I stumble upon danger rooms, arena depths. I also like to help people out occasionally with their ranked missions and farm JK with lowbies. I've recently taken to farming tokens for the guild I am in to build statues.

The biggest thing I could really hope for at this point though that could actually keep me into the game for quite a while longer would be some meaty content patches such as the new Tier 3 boss but I would certainly like to see a lot more of content in that direction.

I think Spiral Knights is, or at least has the potential to be, an extremely enjoyable experience. Sometimes the developers make decisions that I don't agree with but they're not enough to make me enjoy the game less enough to stop playing it, and I have hopes that in the long run those decisions will benefit the game. I do play other games, like League of Legends, Neopets, and more recently Dota 2, not to mention the random flash game that pops up now and then, but none of them offer the same experience I get from playing Spiral Knights. The rush of a heated arena battle, the satisfaction and joy of finally finishing that set I've been working towards, the latent happiness from being genuinely useful to others as part of a group working towards a common goal, (since elevators were made free) the freedom to explore the entirety of the Clockworks at my own pace and discover and battle all sorts of creatures, the strategy of setting up the right equipment loadout for a specific level, the very fitting music, graphics that are cute but manage to create any atmosphere from epic to gloomy to cheery to celebratory when the situation requires it, and it all feels very intuitive. Outside of the incessant promotions, very little of the game feels forced. It all comes together nicely into what feels like a coherent and flowing experience, especially since the addition of missions that give new players a sense of linearity when they don't quite feel comfortable exploring the game on their own (though I wish the mission system hadn't killed the Arcade, but it seems the developers are working towards fixing that). Even the forums, despite having a lot of irrelevant and ridiculous posts, manage to be something I really enjoy reading. Many of the posts are funny and/or offer interesting ideas, or are just nice topics to talk about. Amongst the fire and blind fury that inevitably comes with each major patch, there are almost invariably some very intelligent posts offering convincing arguments for their well-thought-out opinions. The staff is generally very kind and not afraid to participate in conversations themselves, often adding some more humor and general lightheartedness to the thread, and are almost always very helpful when they need to be. I love this game.

TL;DR: I like the game. I have fun playing it. There doesn't need to be a bigger reason.
TL;DR: Go away.

The kind of game I had been invited into was just ideal, surreal. Barring a lengthy story, I became inexplicably obligated to a guild position early on, and the whimsicality of the chapters I've experienced afterward has played a great deal in keeping me around. It's really notably the players that maintain interests.

I'm basically here until the game dies or until I complete my goal of collecting every single piece of equipment in the game.

I want to see what Nick decides and what he doesn't decide. I enjoyed the game on official launch. (April 2011) and have had some questionable loyalties to Nick and on some of his decisions he has made these past two years I've been here.

But, in a way, I hope to one day achieve the same dream he had, since I have the exact same dream he had.

Thinking back on everything, I'm really a questionable fan.

Silly posts aside, I am only

Silly posts aside, I am only playing for the community of people. The content atm is ok, but balanced pretty pathetically.

(In terms of payout)

Also, as about 99% of you guys know, the only other aspect besides exploration that is cheap is lockdown, which is full of a variety of people, ranging from chill people who want to have fun to tryhard asi skolvers/chaoses who happen to suck anyways. So lockdown is out as a source of entertainment to normal people with lives.

That leaves arcade runs, which are decent.

So basically, only the community and occasional arcade runs are worth any time.

I've been playing since April

I've been playing since April 2011 after dad found it. Unfortunately after finding out they were teamed up with SEGA, i merely quit for 6 months only to come back to find out SK was the best-under-rated MMO I've ever played in my entire life. I moved my account to Steam, Been wearing the SK promo hat on my Soldier in TF2 for a year now, and I just want to see something this colorful and under-rated flourish (LOLOL PUNS) into something huge and not something money-hungry with premium memberships /cough RUNESCAPE /cough and other crappy "EXCLUSIVE MEMBERS ONLY" things, which brings me to another reason: Everyone seems to be treated equally. No limits, all items are accessible, the only "EXCLUSIVE" things seem to be Operation Crimson Hammer (which is only I think 5.96 whihc is REALLY worth the money). Not to mention I think the lore and backstory is interesting and I want to see the new updates of new content come out in my absence, and not something like CoD where they make you "think" "new" stuff is out with only SLIGHT modifications and reskins. That stuff makes me puke my face out.

TL;DR: I love SK and I want to see it become awesome and I'm glad I ditched RuneScape for it.

what...me worry?

i enjoy playing Spiral Knights because...

there is still items, things such as armor, weapons, prestige icon, costumes...that i want. i also play..in the Hope that someday they will crank out many more....completely different maps, unique in: idea / thought / concept. maps that will challenge and live up to the epicness of our Knights and gear. no more nerfed and toddler-coddling maps.....maps that would make Doom, Zelda, Mario, Dungeons & Dragons.....drool and be proud to play. that's about it.

I'm still farming S3 Arenas and EFSC for Steam games. Dunno what the rest of you guys are spending your income on. And about 95% of my cr gains goes directly into a special savings where I trade CE for TF2 keys for Steam funds for Steam games for future bragging rights. Not only will I have several games to play when SK goes down, but I will also remember the joys of completing those Fiend arenas.

Even though I am not in touch with him, he is my best friend and the only thing that pushes me to play this game is to honor my friend. I will play this game for as long as I can and always will.
