Hai Guiz!

So here are my stuffs:
Armor: Mira Cloak, Ashtail Cap
Weapons: Faust, Volt Driver
Shield: Rock Jelly -_-

Basically, I used to think that wolvers did pierce damage, so I went for a jelly shield since the high level wolvers annoy the crap out of me with their hopping around and attacks and such. When I found out that only Lichens really do pierce, I realized I had a complete waste of a shield.

I have a gran faust recipe and vog cap recipe, and all that good stuff, so eventually all of my 5* gear will be the next level of the stuff seen here. Oh, and I'm going Divine Mantle on the Cloak.

So here's my question:

Do I go Owlite or Volcanic Plate? Both the Mantle and Vog cap will give me Ele defense, but I'm lacking in Normal, so I'm thinking plate. Fire protection is a must for obvious reasons at this point of the game. I also looked at the heater shield, since it gave both normal and ele, but with the normal being higher, but no fire protect and a frost protection does me no good.

Any opinions are welcome; I also looked at the Omega Shield, but I don't see the draw for the Stone Tortoise line. Is it just for looks?

Thanks,
IGN: Woden, though there is no reason to find me there. Reply here obvi.

Omega!

Omega shield has a lot of health, along with its high normal defense. This makes it an acceptable all-round shield, and has done me fine. Owlite has elemental defense, and a friend of mine loves hers. Particularly handy against gun puppies and other elemental-spewing monstrosities, it does get shredded in graveyards where things do shadow damage. I've seen lots of people with volcanic plate, but have no experience. Probably a fine shield as well, but... *shrug*

So even without the fire

So even without the fire bonus it holds up well in the Fire Citadel? My other armor has fire protection, so I shouldn't be too worried about that I guess.

Volcanic = Very high Normal

Volcanic = Very high Normal def + (stun/fire) or the Ironmight(stun/pierce). Can't take a lot of shots on gun pups though.
Omega = Cheaper to make, I think has the top Normal def but no resist (stun/fire)
Grey Owlite = Good shield vs Elemental (which is a lot) plus shock/fire.
Dread Skelly = Close to stats as Grey Owlite but lots of shadow def.

All of these shields are good and has their purpose.
Best shield would be one of the above with UV max in one of the other areas (def ele, shadow, norm or vs debuffs)

Also...Personal defense is different from shield defense. Shield defense only works when your blocking. Personal is when you get hit. You will also need different sets of gear when you get hit (and you will).

Before, you could get a few shields and be ok on ce/wallet. Now, good luck lol. Only the rich can swap out shields.

Yeah, I knew about the

Yeah, I knew about the blocking only protect, I just want to be balanced overall. Luckily I'm not too affected by this last patch. I'm one of the few that liked most of the patch. I need to block a lot for the gun puppies, but I mostly need a strong shield vs strong up close attacks in the normal area.

Once I finish the rest of my set, I'll probably spend time crafting basic plates until I get a good elemental UV.

Normal damage becomes less of

Normal damage becomes less of a contributing factor the deeper you go. Gun puppies start to deal more elemental damage in Tier 2, but it goes insane in Tier 3. I recommend the Owlite series if you're blocking versus gun puppies, because in Tier 2 they eat through a non-elemental shield. It'll only get worse in Tier 3.
