Planning to host a 3* LD tournament, looking for advice

(Darn it, lost my first post.)

I want to host a LD event this Christmas, and I'm still working out the rules, so these aren't final. This is what I've come up with so far:

- Weapons must be obtainable without Down-Loadable Content or Tokens, including boss Tokens or Krogmo Coins. (This includes Heart Trinkets)
- Weapons must not be in the "Banned" list.
- Weapons may have any amount of heat.
- Any two weapons must not share the roles of "Crowd Control" or "Damage", even across Swords, Guns, and Bombs. (For example, no Cryotech Alchemer and Graviton Charge in the same loadout.) This doesn't apply to the weapons in the "Unlimited" catagory.

And...

Crowd Control: Iceburst Brandish, Cryotech Alchemer Mk II, Voltech Alchemer Mk II, Freezing Vaporizer Mk II, Graviton Charge
Damage: Fireburst Brandish, Nightblade, Arc Razor, Firotech Alchemer Mk II, Prismatech Alchemer Mk II, Shadowtech Alchemer Mk II, Fiery Vaporizer Mk II
Unlimited: Tempered Calibur, Cautery Sword, Striker, Kamarin, Super Blaster, Needle Shot, Pepperbox, Magnus, Super Blast Bomb, Deconstructor, Any Shard Bomb, Toxic Vaporizer Mk II

Flourishes are banned.

And finally, for allowed armors: Solid Cobalt, Blazebreak, Blizzbreaker, Surge Breaker, Boosted Plate, Angelic

UVs, unless small enough to make a difference, are not allowed.

Now, if any of you read that, I'm going to explain what I'm driving at:

I'm trying to encourage teamwork (yes, this tourney will have teams, not 1v1) by preventing one person from holding all the good weapons. The idea is to limit people from making loadouts which have pretty much no weakness whatsoever. Wolver, for example, has no weaknesses, while Blizzbreak does. If someone takes Blizzbreak, they should take Surge Breaker or someone else with Surge Breaker to help them when they come up against a shocking weapon.

Crowd Control weapons have some stopping power on foes. Damage weapons have higher damage than the other weapons in most cases. (If someone takes Shadow Alch, only players with Angelic will resist it.) Unlimited weapons aren't as good as the others (most of the time) and therefor get to be used freely.

I'm banning Flourishes because they are very, very OP. With a little practice, I was chopping people up left and right. And I see everyone doing just that as well. Why else do pros use them? I want some feedback on this in particular. Is it a good idea?

Also, I'm not sure if I've sorted things properly. Of the ones I want to know about, are Super Blaster, Kamarin, and Super Blast Bomb all suitable for the Unlimited group? Is there something else I'm missing?

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

You can't use boss tokens to obtain your equipment, like I said. Antigua, Pulsar, Sealed Sword, Spine Cone, etc. are all not allowed.

Auto, you disappointed me. =(

Banning a weapon is just ridiculous in my opinion. Banning Hammer might be acceptable since it's only obtainable by $$$ or CR/CE if you have steam trade with someone else, but yeah.

That's just my opinion, but in the end, I wish you best of luck in organizing this tournament. OH YEAH! I remembered something:

DO NOT FORM MATCHES BETWEEN US AND EU, IT IS BY ALL MEANS, IMPOSSIBRU, BE IT EITHER OF TIMELINES OR LAG ON EACH SIDE.

Thanks for the feedback, Dragneel, but how do I fix it? I'm not hosting a tournament unless it's a challenge of coordination, teamwork, and skill. Flourishes are against that. Would banning Heart Trinkets be enough? Banning Striker? I have to ban something or else it's just our current LD...fun sometimes but in the tournament I entered I had no chance as a casual player. I want something which casual and hardcore players can fight on even grounds, something which LD lacks big time.

And yes, I've watched other tournaments (not the matches but the results and complaints) and I know by now that hosting between EU and US is a bad idea. I'm also not going to be sloppy about the time matches occur.

EDIT: Also I want to let everyone know that I'm making this tournament based off what I see is wrong with many current tournaments, which are dominated by UVs and Skolver. I have my means of ensuring members follow the weapon guidelines and of fixing the issue of guildless teams. This is going to be untraditional, to be sure.

This is a good idea in theory, but honestly I can't seen enough people signing up for it.

As for banning flourishes because they are "op", then you can't allow auto targeted brandishes. The whole point of banning a flourish over other swords is to get people to aim, right? Yeah. No AT please.

Doh...darn it...

AT is certainly problematic. On one hand, players who play with digital controls need AT to hit much of anything, but then mouse players use it just to aim even better...

What about flourish in terms of damage? It's pure piercing, and doesn't that help it out a lot?

@Dreath

I considered those armors, but I decided not to include them because they have no weaknesses at all. However, I could be wrong...I wish we had some real numbers and not these bars! It's kinda tedious...

Why do I feel like a windbag all of a sudden?

Consider putting Boss Token items in, but it can't be anything above 3 stars
Also why no wolver?
Just make anything that is 3 stars or less, I find that much more fair

I would put blaster and blast bombs into the restricted categories, if T3 is any indication.

I think you're doing a cool thing and I'd join it.

!

I have a few tier 2 sets I could throw on that meet these requirements.

On a side not, I think there are a bit too many rules and restrictions for a small low tier tournament. You're going to have to do a heck of a job organizing and promoting this, and the easier it is to conform to the easier a person will say yes when asked to play.

Using obscure/creative weapons is the sole reason I was gifted an asi vh brandish. I'm game for some tier 2 lockdown.

Gonna be rocking Blazebreak with my sexy Arc Razor and a Blaster.

Curious, though. Are there any prizes? Any problems with guildless people?
