Is there a reason why these don't already exist or should not be created?
- Defense type (armor)
- Damage type (weapons)
- Status resistance (armor)
- Accessory attach point
I will start adding them soon if there are no objections.

I wasn't planning to go very in depth. I just think that based on how equipment is categorized now, people might think Spiral Knights is just a dress-up game. It would be useful to see, at a glance, all 'Weapons dealing shadow damage' or all 'Armor front accessories' (instead of just which armors have the slot) etc.
EDIT: After viewing the WeaponInfo template's source, I now understand why you asked about the in-depth data. For now, I don't plan to template-ize anything. For example, I will manually add [[Category:Weapons dealing shadow damage]] to each weapon based on its Equipment-*_Stats.png
You mean like what's shown under, say "Player sources of Shadow Damage" on this page?
I think he means that he'll have a category "Shadow armor", that contains all armor pieces that protect against shadow damage. So people who are looking for shadow armor can find all of it quickly.
Corsa, please explain what you mean more clearly.

Similar but in a more pragmatic fashion. That page has some omissions (Nightblade listed under mixed shadow but not mixed normal, for example) and any new weapon additions in the future would require manual editing of that page in addition to creation/categorization of the new weapons' pages.

Yes that's basically what I'm going to start doing. In the future, it may be helpful to roll these categorizations into the existing *Info templates but for now I'm just adding categories for easier searching.
EDIT: I'm working out some implementation details before actually getting to editing. Initially I wanted to focus on armor and weapons (because that's what I wanted to search for) but those aren't the only types of equipment. I'm thinking of creating 4 Defense categories and 4 Damage categories and then 'Armors/Weapons providing X Defense/Damage' subcategories respectively. This leaves room for adding other types of equipment like trinkets and sprite harnesses which I had not originally planned on categorizing.
Example: Articles categorized as "Armors providing Piercing Defense" would then be listed in both that specific subcategory and in the "Piercing Defense" category but not, for example, in a possible "Trinkets providing Piercing Defense" subcategory. In summary, "Piercing Defense" would then show all sources of piercing defense available to players with subcategories for equipment type.
I've finished categorizing all armors (e/n/p/s) and helmets (e/n/p/s).
While going through these, I marked several that are missing themes. Also I made some theme choices on armors before deciding that maybe I should not be making theme choices, so a double-check of armor themes would be appreciated. I remember assigning Deadshot Mantle to Divine-Themed; but I'm not sure what else needs confirmation? Also also Proto gear could use some retemplating and/or theme expansion to reflect the variety of choices available to new players.
Also also also, there's a consistency issue for special alchemy machine products and the No Recipe category that I wanted to discuss. Namely, Kat Eye Mask is categorized as No Recipe which separates it from all of the other ancient page token rewards and moorcraft alchemy machine products. If this categorization is intentional, then all Kat items will need to be recategorized as well as the Seerus Masks and SL armors. This will also affect Trinkets when I get around to categorizing those too.
Go for it.
Do you know enough about how status resistance, defence and damage type works? I wasn't going to put any of this up on the wiki, myself, until I had a somewhat complete picture to present.
