Is it wise to buy 5* gear from Supply Depot with CE?

I was thinking about buying the 5* shield with 3,500 CE? I am saving crowns to buy CE. I currently have 200 CE.

I am asking is it faster to gather crowns than leveling up your gear to level 10 and farm/buy Crystals?

I am a busy man and I wouldn't really like to farm the arena over and over again. Also, I have some other gear to level up.

What's the hurry? Yes, kozma is 10 times faster, but enjoy the game.

Eh...

"What's the hurry? Yes, kozma is 10 times faster, but enjoy the game."

Hurry? 150 hours put into the game and just created second character. You call that being in a hurry?

Anyways, it's just that I want the shield but I don't really want the shield to be my main shield so I'm not really wanting to grind anything useless. Also, it's pain in the butt grinding the Shining Crystals.

The thread creator isn't even buying CE for money, but crowns. I'd be quite surprised if buying 2600 CE for crowns was faster than getting fire crystals unless you're playing the markets or something.

I would only really buy from

I would only really buy from Kozma in the case of alchemy orbs, or the sprites.

I tend to go there occasionally just to preview armor.

What midnight said. How can people be so impatient?

If you're that "busy", then maybe you don't have time for spiral knights.

Eh... Again...

Dummies, dummies everywhere!

Didn't you read the post?

"I don't really need the shield, I just want it"

Also, I am saving crowns for the CE, not buying them!

What shield is it that you

What shield is it that you want? Maybe we can elucidate to you the potential uses for this shield and why it's probably better in the long run to make it yourself instead of buy it pre-made for a huge markup.

Grinding shining fire crystal alone... If you want a consistent result, do in cold blood rank mission, you want to skip everything except the treasure boxes. However, if you find depth 19 arena, definitely do it when the theme rotates at the right place (you can look it up on mission tab, the theme should be on furthest left when arrow goes <<< most likely and vice versa), you could do it twice in a row, then usually it just rotates to another themes. Both arena and whole in cold blood mission gives ~20 shining crystals. Or just do recipe crafting when you have abundant radiant fire crystals, it's definitely the fastest if you grind FSC. Based on my experience though, I rather level up my gears and grinding crowns at the same time, to buy good uv gears or good custome instead of regular 5* from supply depot.

If you don't need it, then it's an even BIGGER waste of energy. And I never said you were spending real money, that's irrelevant.

Buying gear is always going to be WAY more expensive than just crafting it.

@OP if you're like ^ that

@OP if you're like ^ that guy, and spend your life on the game, then buying from the SD would be a bad idea. However, if you do not have much time to spend on the game and cant play for 8 hpours a day (aka you have a life), then maybe Supply Depot for some items. Youre paying a premium that is added to save time spent from heating and other such stuff.

I don't "spend my life on the game", I spend like an hour a day (and that's not counting the five MINUTES a day average I was playing the few months before the sprite update). And I'd rather spend a moderate amount of time than an absurd amount of energy (more than DOUBLE what it could cost to just buy the orbs needed).

Voza's last sentence is correct though. You're basically paying for a shortcut. Though if you can't be bothered to play even enough to raise one piece of gear to 5*, it's questionable what benefit you'll get from it.

"Though if you can't be bothered to play even enough to raise one piece of gear to 5*..."

I have two 5* items leveled up from the very beginning so your argument is invalid. It's just the shield I am buying is a bit useless to me. You get it now? No? Well don't reply then.

If it's useless, then don't buy it. Simple.

Q: Is it wise to buy 5* gear from Supply Depot with CE?
A: No.

I felt like some random calculations off the top of my head.
- If you're looking at a relatively common item, you can usually find the 3* version on the Auction House for about 16,000-18,000 crowns =~200 CE
- You can also craft the 2* piece, and upgrade it to 3* for a total of ~250 CE
- 3* -> 4* upgrade is 400 CE, while the 4* -> 5* upgrade is 800 CE.
- This totals to about 1400-1450 CE, assuming you didn't find orbs.

Now vaguely factoring in orbs. For the sake of simplicity, let's assume you have approximately the same number of each type of orb and let's disregard 1* orbs for they aren't used when crafting ANY 5* item. Thus, the average price of an orb is = (50/3)*(0.25) + (200/3)*(0.25) + (400/3)*(0.25) + (800/3)*(0.25) = 725/6 = ~120.833 CE per orb. This will probably not be accurate for you and is heavily skewed to higher tier orbs. Also, the only time individual orbs matter is when you have three of them, so this calculation may be completely irrelevant. Regardless, if you have a set of orbs, you can dramatically cut the energy costs of crafting.

Now for forging! Heat only matters when crafting from 3* -> 4* and 4* -> 5*These prices are based on the supply depot (Energy per Crystal)
3*: 175/50 = 3.5
4*: 350/50 = 7

There is a helpful wiki table with all this information I'm about to use. Let's assume we use medium and trust that the 25% chance of skipping a level offsets the chance of failure.
3* => Require 22 => 22*3.5 = 77 (only need heat lvl 5)
4* => Require 206 => 206*7 = 1442
There is a total of 228 crystals required overall, with a price of 1519 between them. Thus let's say, 1519/228 = ~6.66 energy per heat crystal, just to make things simple.

TL;DR

Assuming you have no orbs and no heat crystals, that totals up to 2969CE (at most). This then gets reduced by about 120.8 energy per orb, and 6.7 energy per heat crystal.

Still less than the 3500 energy price that the Supply Depot offers, even if you only buy from the supply depot (500 CE ~= 40,000 crowns at today's prices)

If you're going to use it, instead of spending 3500 CE, buy a 2* version of the shield with a fancy UV, and then upgrade that.

It's a choice of either spending more but getting it instantly or get it cheaper with the chance of UV's + more time wasted to upgrade it.

@Midnight-Dj No wonder why Kozma was having a ''clearout''

!

If you still have other gear to heat up and don't want to grind an area, just wait and see where you are when you have everything at max level. Personally I'm probably going to purchase a 5* item for the CE since the amount of time I'd have to spend getting the stuff to forge it from a 2*... just doesn't seem worth it. I'd rather keep rockin the danger missions and occasional vana. Between the 5* items that drop, danger missions and lower level clockworks are totally worth it.

150 hours into this game? Oi...I'm screwed then

I have put in, and I quote from the character select area

"51:15:34:04"

Also known as 51 days, 15 hours, 34 minutes, 4 seconds. Yeah...I'm going to a bad place.

Just work toward getting dat shield and whatnot. The first thing I bought from the depot was the Prismatic Dragon Wings when they went on sail (4,000 CE). Besides that, avoid getting stuff from her for CE. With the new crafting system using orbs and not energy, it's much easier. As for heating. Just use the clockworks for dat.

Stay coo, and WASABI on!
