I am thinking about getting myself a bomb + gun loadout. I just don't really have any idea what gear I should get.

I was thinking about Mad Bomber set but the stats seem pretty useless compared to the Chaos set...

Anyways, I have no idea what weapons I shoukd get. I was thinking about the Nitronome but it seems that Big Angry Bomb has more damage and chance to stun! So which one is better?

For the gun I was thinking about getting Valliance. Of course I have the Umbra Driver but it has pure Shadow Damage.

So what gear should I get? Any suggestions welcome!

try these links first

Have you read the Gunslinger and Bombing Guides on the wiki? The latter one is pretty good, and already points out that Mad Bomber is useless.

Threads like this one pop up occasionally. You might get some insight from reading some of them. For example, try Google: gun bomb hybrid site:forums.spiralknights.com.

Sorry, I don't have great answers for you myself. Good luck.

Depends on whether you're

Depends on whether you're good at dodging and whether you prefer being able to solo. It also depends on whether you want to rely on your bomb or your gun more

I'm going to assume you're great at dodging and you want to do solo, also that you're a regular of T3/FSC but that you don't use trinkets or extra weapon slots. I'm also gonna assume you're more bomber than gunner, since you're asking for a bomb-gun set and not a gun-bomb set, and also because you apparently want a utility gun like Valiance.

In that case, Chaos Set seems good. If you're going to use blast bombs as your main, I'd suggest Polaris as your gun. It'll be good for turrets and keeping certain enemies at bay. It might also cause shock.

I'm not familiar enough with blast bombs to give you any advice on them though.

Yeah

You should use the Volcanic Pepperbox for a gun.

For bombs, possibly a Nitronome, Irontech Destroyer, Deadly Shard Bomb, or Stagger Storm.

For armor, Bombtastic, or Volcanic Demo are options.
They each have their purpose. Bombtastic isn't necessarily bad.
If you plan on using the Pepperbox's charge often, the Chaos set is viable. If you value defense more than that, just avoid it.

You could go Volcanic Demo, Volcanic Pepperbox, and Irontech Destroyer. Is that any good? I get the fact they're underrated weapons, but they aren't really all that bad.

The armor can really be anything, but with a faster charge time from Volcanic Demo, you can get more bombs out, and if it stuns, you can easily hit them with the Volcanic Pepperbox and set them on fire.

I don't know too much about bombs, but I do have some useful advice.

Elemental guns: Polaris or Peacemaker. Polaris is a good CC gun, and the Peacemaker is a hard-hitting, easy to use piece of gear. Alchemers will deal more damage, but as gun/bomb hybrid, you'll be using bombs for most of your damage dealing anyway. You don't need a fancy gun, you need a reliable one. However, I don't know how effective elemental damage bombs are, so you might want to grab a driver if they aren't all that good.

Shadow: Again, I'd suggest the Antigua-line Sentenza, but since you already have an umbra, stick with that and use the orbs to craft other gear. IMO it's not the best option, but it's better to have a few mediocre options then one good option and several bad ones.

Piercing: Blitz, maybe Callahan if you hate winning. I've heard piercing bombs are not that great, so the Blitz might end up being your main source of piercing damage.

Normal: Valliance and Volcanic pepperbox are both solid choices, I'd recommend getting both and switching between them based on the situation.

Forgot Armor

My usual advice for hybrids is to mix and match class gear. In this case, use gunslinger hats and a demo suit (volcanic is always a popular choice, but you could also rock a mad suit if you want). Use whatever gunslinger hat you like (I'm working toward nameless and seerus mask, but any gun hat is good).

Chaos is also an option, and a very good one. I personally don't like it, but there's no reason not to wear it (aside from the possible scenario of it getting nerfed in the next update), and many good reasons to do do.

For Shields, pick anything you want, but I'd avoid switfstike, as you'll sacrifice too much defense for too little benefit (especial if you pick guns that don't improve much with ASI).

tl;dr other posts

Answering your question directly.
Valiance is weak at clockworks (one of the best gun at lockdown though). Big angry bomb is unreliable dps and setup, however, I find it fun just like you said. The power house of handguns at clockworks is the alchemer and autogun lines. Pulsar and antigua has meh damage. Neutralizer is actually pretty good and the most fun gun for normal damage. If you're looking up pure damage bomber, you should get one (or all of them >_>) of these, nitronome, dark briar barrage or dark retribution. (and I have mixed feeling on shard bombs, just because I don't have my motivation to try them out for a long period) Status bombs works quite well on some situation though. Just a quick reminder, try to dodge all type of monsters attack before you get chaos set. If you get only few hits (probably 0 - 10) from monsters on whole depth (and you actually can notice that you're going to get hit because of your silliness), you're definitely fine with chaos set. ASI still helps, definitely pick swiftstrike buckler if you have no problem on dodging.

For bomb+gun loadouts the

For bomb+gun loadouts the best damage set would be

full chaos
swiftstrike
elite boom mod
elite trueshot mod
elite quickdraw sprite perk
ASI low on all your guns
thats max damage+charge+asi on guns

Bombs you should definitely own:
dark briar barrage
electron vortex
dark retribution
shivermist

Guns you should definitely own:
umbra driver (tick that off the list)
nova driver
valiance
polaris
blitz

Between those weps you have a bunch of varied and powerful loadout options and can deal with everything the game can throw at you.

Is it just the first two weapons to focus on that you're trying to decide on? For peops specialising in just one weapon class, it's a no-brainer to choose one of each of two damage types other than Normal, but when using wildly different weapons it becomes an interesting question whether to do that or use Normal damage. One of the most common recommendations for "gun and sword, in accord" player is to get Snarble sword and a Prisma-Nova line Alchemer, using a Blaster and maybe Pulsegun as a substitute until that Alchemer can be upgraded to 4-star, since Alchemers are late-bloomers.

If I were going for just one gun and one bomb, I think my choice would be very similar: Prisma-Nova line and the Snarble bomb. Both are top choices vs. Fiends, and I can't think off the top of my head of a monster against which at least one of those two weapons is among the top-tier choices.
