Skolver or Vog?

I'm looking at both functionality and fashion. I got the vog coat already because it looks the best out of the four (vog/skolver coat/cap) and because I definitely need at least some fire resist and elemental resist to some degree. I'm a pure swordy most of the time with an occasional bomb or, less often, gun if the situation demands. I do great fighting jellies but I don't have any 4-5* toothpick so I'm avoiding wolvers mostly for the moment. Against constructs I'm relatively strong besides the mecha knight swarms in arenas and of course the bullet hell rooms; same goes for gremlins except its the thwacker swarms that get me. In terms of weaponry I mainly use my Glacius.

Fashion-wise, the vog cap looks ridiculous in my opinion. OOO could've done a better job with the two ear things. Skolver looks fine, but I'm not sure how it should go with vog coat (although I'm not exactly planning on showing it off).

I'd like some biased opinions. Not the same ole "FSC=vog and everything else=skolver". Why do you use what you use? For vog, is ASI actually worth using? I'm used to having extra damage but I can adjust if the ASI is more worth getting. Or, if I get Skolver, would it work well with sprite perks? Or would it be better to do full vog and perk to cover the sword damage?

And yes Bopp, I checked out your detailed sword guide.

More damage = kill things before they reach you.
Particulary true when using brandishes.

So, go skolver. Everyone has it. They look like clones. But it must work then.

Fashion perspective:

Mixing aspects of Wolver 5* armor sets doesn't go well. If you're going for looks, Vog Cap. That being said, there are other helms that can go with the Vog Coat. This is a list of some other volcanic themed items that work well with a Vog Coat.

Gameplay perspective:

I'd go with Skolver over Vog on almost any day of the week. Admittedly, I've always had a few problems with Constructs (Gremlins aren't bad for me because I seem to have great luck with Shadow Weapons that have anti-gremlin UVs). The reason why I like Skolver over Vog is because it's harder to acquire a universal damage bonus than an attack speed bonus. You can always use UVs to get better ASI later on, but you cannot get a universal +Damage UV (Admittedly you can rely on the Barbarous Thorn Shield for sword damage, but then you can also rely on the Swiftstrike Buckler for ASI High). In addition, if you're relying on (or occasionally using) your sword's charge attack, then you are sorta wasting your attack speed bonus (It does speed up the swing a bit, but it doesn't make that much of an impact). Regardless of your fighting style, damage will always be appreciated and used with every attack.

Admittedly I love Snarby the most. People say you just need fire resist for FSC... but FSC is full of undead who deal shadow damage! It's also a great armor set for fiends, which is (IMO) the trickiest enemy type to deal with (especially as a swordsman). The only problem is getting to the Sanctuary Alchemy Machine...

oh good

I have nothing to say about the aesthetics. As for practical matters, I'm glad that you read my guide. The only other thing to say (that I can think of) is: Which swords are you using? Do you use mainly regular attacks or charge attacks? This can help you decide whether you want ASI.

Ever seen what Echo uses?

Yeah. Skolver works very well with a DVS. Vog Cub has a noticable effect on Cutters, but it's not as useful.

Vog Cub works well with swords with normal or slow speed, like the Combuster or Sudaruska.

And slow swords like the Sudaruska might not be affected as much by things like Plate armor, due to the already existing slow speed not modifying much.

Skolver or Vog? For what? Only having one and the other is erased from existence forever? Then probably skolver, because dat PVP.

In reality, they both get used for different things. However, in the current meta-game, Skolver is generally better. Charge ups are the name of the game, and skolver synergies with charge ups better.

If the Swarm ever become a big thing in the future, such as a swarm themed boss strata, then Vog may make a resurgence. ASI Max with heavy swords works very well against the Swarm. If you look at videos of the original harder Unknown Passage, most people used heavy swords because it was too dangerous to use charge ups. Snare fields, continuous monster respawns, unkillable turrets, random slime projectiles... with the high constant danger, the smack and shield style was generally superior to brandish charge attacks, due to much higher survivability.

To be honest, I see little reason to get Skolver 'cause it's more offensive than Vog Cub when you might as well get Chaos.

Thanks for the responses

@Little-Juances
Good point. Score 1 for skolver.

@Travelliath
Damage does seem like a good point but its debatable whether the extra is enough to make a legit difference. Speed may actually help kill things faster.

@Bopp
I did say I'm a Glacius user. I mainly use charge attacks for dangerous situations like swarms or multiple elite mobs. Otherwise it's normal swings for me.

@Zerokken
I'm aiming for both a suda and DVS but not yet. Not sure what to do with that.

@Khamsin
I do PvP sometimes but only BN. I'm not planning on getting the other any time soon so yes, it's a one-choice thing. Good points though, so thanks.

@Krakob
True. I do have a mantle sitting around somewhere...

You need a certain damage bonus to knock out monster (using final swing/charge w/ or w/o full combo) and cancel their attack charge. That would create more opportunity for you to be more sloppy during runs. Though, you don't need it for solo, since lower hp = easier knock out.

oops

Oops, sorry, I didn't see Glacius. Well, your playstyle suggests that you'd like ASI then. But if you're planning to get big CTR any time soon (for example through a sprite perk), then you may find yourself charging Glacius more, and then ASI is less valuable. Ultimately, they're both good, and you should try to max both. Good luck.

Yeah, maybe Mercurial Helm would look nice with Vog Coat!

Also, as a proud owner of an ASI VH Combuster, ASI is very handy, especially with a Vog Coat (ASI MAX FTW!!!). Have you tried mixing both to get CTR, DMG, ASI Med? Also you can use SSB/BTS, trinkets, and Perks, or OP Chaos to reach higher levels.

One is a PvE, while the other

One is a PvE, while the other is PvP. Guess which one is which. For looks, I generally prefer the Skolver pieces, because I like the soft, white undertones better.
