Discussion go.

My opinion? Snarbolax Armor. Sure, it's a bit impractical, but it's well worth spending over 3K CE and a lot of time acquiring needed mats and stuff. (Assuming you gathered all mats without AH'ing them). Also, Gunslinger armor. Any sort of line. Unless you're a musketeer style player (Sword as a primary weapon, gun as a sub weapon), it's resists let you evade movement-impeding danger (Vital for anyone) and it boasts good buffs for handguns. For bombers, well, Bomber Armor. That is all.

Ok, feel free to share your ideas of the best not chaos PvE armor set in the game.

I don't plan on getting PVP armor or weps anytime soon. I'm just going for damage protections with debuff resistances. Grey owlite shield, heater shield, Nameless set (BECAUSE OF THAT FREAKING AWESOME MOVIE), Dread Skelly, Valkyrie, Skolver, etc.

@Xtweeterx. You mean the "Man

@Xtweeterx. You mean the "Man With No Name" Triology, in which Clint eastwood portrays Joe, then Manco, then blondie (His nicknames change in each movie). There is no best set. It all depends upon your playstyle. In terms of shields, Crest of Almire and Grey Owlite.

heres mine:

Divine Set. love it love it love it. havent failed me yet and has tough me to be a better player. (no Normal defense!)
Skolver/Vog Cub hybid: In my opinion, best Swordie combo gear. ASI + Damage + Normal Defense
ASI Buckler Shield: do i need to elaborate?
----
I own both the Crest of Almire and Grey Owlite and i find CoA to be better then the Owlite shield.

Yes, but it depends on the situation. I would much rather take an owlite on a GitM or a RT run.

Cyclops Cap + Fencing Jacket + 10 random supergiants out of nowhere
= Shadowsun Stetson + Snarbolax Coat

There is absolutely no "best armor" in the game for general PvE, each situation calls for:

Even if Enemies deal Elemental damage, they could be dealing Shock damage, something that only a few pieces of defensive armor can take.

Some enemies also do more specialized damage than other enemies and vice-versa. Rendering things like Grey Feather Set much more prominent than Vog Cub Set. However, Vog Cub comes with an added bonus effect which unlike the former, provides more offensive capabilities than the latter.

The entire list of offensive capabilities are:

Normal/Piercing:
-Skolver Set
-Justifier Set

Normal/Elemental:
-Vog Cub Set
-Perfect Mask of Serrus
-Nameless Set
-Bombastic Demo Set
-Mad Bomber Set
-Volcanic Demo Set
-Chaos Set

Normal/Shadow:
-Shadowsun Slicker Set
-Deadshot Set
-Snarbolax Set
-Heavenly Iron Set
-Fallen Set
-Kat Hiss Cowl
-Kat Claw Cowl
-Kat Eye Cowl

Now this is a decent amount of offensive pieces of armor. The Kat Hiss Cowls however, provide a great boost in defense and provide a tiny bit of offensive but only work for Shadow stuff. Same applies for the Perfect Mask of Seerus.

Defensive provide you with some great endurance and allow you to travel if you're not yet prepared for what is ahead, the most defensive pieces in the game are:

Normal:
-Ancient Plate Set (Does have a negative bonus of Movement Speed Decrease: Low)

Normal/Piercing:
-Royal Jelly Set (Ice Queen if you can get through the Shadow Lair)
-Ironmight Plate Set

Normal/Elemental:
-Grey Feather Set
-Volcanic Plate Set

Normal/Shadow
-Dread Skelly Set

Some Sets like the Dragon Scale Set and the Divine Set provide split specialized defense and are suited for unique but specific situations.

(Note: I do know there are some pieces that provide Damage Bonus to families, but I'm too lazy to list them)

Based on cosmetics, I love

Based on cosmetics, I love the look of Vog, Snarbolax, Volcanic Salamander, and the Mad Bomber suit looks awesome.

Now as far as what I would prefer while fighting is a good set of resistive trinkets and my Trusty Ol' Chaos.

Sorry, I had to do it.

Yes. They're freaking awesome. Especially because I want elemental and freeze resistance. I agree there's no "best set" and it all depends on your playstyle.

The best non-Chaos is armour is still Chaos. It's just that good.

@Xtweeterx

It's not really about play styles rather the mere fact that your gear decisions are molded based on any given situation. It will feel like your first armor choice is based on play style and I agree it should be but once a player begins to expand their arsenal the armor choices become more about damage and resist. This is true for all play styles except for people that use chaos which virtually sacrifice defense in order to achieve any given play style at any time.

They say the best defense is a good offense, or is it the other way around?

@Writhes

I thought it was a difference between getting armors and sets that resist all damage types and debuffs that have offensive buffs so you can kite the level, or "tank" sets in case you're afraid of dying :\

EDIT OF LAST POST TO ARKATE: Clint never had blonde hair! Are those people colorblind or something!?

Mercurial.

Demo or normal, pick your poison.
Swap out for BKC for that "I cant believe it's not chaos" flavor.
Mercurial + any pet's swift steps II = godmode on a stick

"Mercurial + any pet's swift steps II = godmode on a stick"

Super fast run speed is fun but I wouldn't say it is godmode on a stick.

I guess Sergio Leone had a thing for blondes, I don't know. Plus I wouldn't be surprised if Tuco was half-blind.

"All bosses tremble before the faster-than-an-average-knight."

Bosses aren't particularly hard in the first place. Hardest part of most dungeons is the arenas.

Pretend I wrote something clever here

Personally, I use nameless hat+vog cub as my all purpose armor, but that's just for me. Your personal "best" armor will depend on your weapons and playstyle.......or chaos (In the name of the God-Emperor, I hope that thing gets nerfed soon). I personally feel that hybrids have an easier time in this game than pure sword/gun/bomb users, since the expanded combat options available to hybrids make up for the weaker armor. So my vote for best armor would be some combination of sword, gun, and bomb armor.

"So my vote for best armor would be some combination of sword, gun, and bomb armor."

Sounds familiar, I just can't put my finger on it.

Snarb for swords, Shadowsun

Snarb for swords, Shadowsun for guns, Mad Bomber for bombs, SSB as a shield (VPS for bomber).

Normal armor if you suck and get hit alot.

"SSB as a shield"

Pass. Swiftstrike is overrated, since it can barely hold up against damage, and high ASI isn't that much by itself. I'd much rather use a BTS if I'm going offensive, since at least it has some level of defense, and actually synergies with charge-ups.

^ Helps with heavy swords

^ Helps with heavy swords though, and definitely is optimal for guns.

It would be interesting to compare dpses of a sword with SSB vs BTS though.

On Elite in Stratum 6, damage is so pure that Swiftstrike and BTS will both fail extremely fast. You'll have to be in a place with piercing attacks for BTS to work as a shield under those circumstances.

No1 has mentioned skolfer :(

But (*snigger* BUTT) a mixed set with chaos and I dunno, snarby or skolfer would probably be better than full chaos
