Some big wigs buy them all out and sell them for more? It's like some never-ending train of buy-sell as they get more and more speed and momentum. When does the AH refresh it's items? I've been trying to get it and unfortunately missed it by a small amount of time long enough for them all to disappear.

pretty sure he means the Featured Auction ones. And they almost always get bought out in less then an hour (probably faster). I don't think i've even seen a Chap on the FA in a long time, always just the tabards left.
A: Buy them while they were new.
B: Buy 50k CE and blow it on 'em.
C: Figure out that you don't need an overpriced vanity item.
