As most experienced players know, SK has evolved quite a bit. There's been missions, battle sprites and tons of other stuff. And the number of Merchants in SK outclasses any game I've played, save for TF2. But why not make merchants into a way of PLAYING the game instead of LOITERING? And without further ado, I give you...The Merchant Set.

I'm still crunching numbers to balance out the gameplay a bit. But my main idea is to create suave armor that provides a bonus percentage to the amount of crowns you make in a level, and reducing the cost of recipes and items from vendors while decreasing the damage dealt by players wearing the armor.

Think of it something like this: Player A wearing Cobalt armor does 100% damage, gets 100% crowns, takes 100% damage based on damage dealt (Per Swing.) and pays 100% for everything. Player B wearing the Merchant set does 60% damage, gets 120% crowns, takes 120% damage based on damage dealt (Per Swing.) and pays 90% for everything. (Numbers are subject to change.)

I hope this outfit screams POWER, WEALTH, SHECKSH: http://i.imgur.com/vutCDnz.jpg.

The bley should be grey, but my printer sucks. It looks a lot better irl. Oh well.

A +crowns bonus is fine to me. Not because it is pro-merchant, but because it is anti-merchant.

Player C uses ctr uvs or trinkets and laughs at the damage reduction with his mist bombs.

Which was why I SAID NUMBERS WERE SUBJECT TO CHANGE. And if you look at the damage with trinkets on this set, vs damage with trinkets on another set it is still significantly different.

@Its-Some-Secret. I was thinking about more damage, but more damage based on damage amount seems even better.

Sure, why don't we just go out and give away all our stuff to beggars while we're at it?
The issue I have with this set is that even though it would have a damage reduction, there are no other penalties. The -40% of damage can be resolved with trinkets/uvs (already know you've covered this). That being said, this armor would just take the place of Wolver clones & possibly screw up the economy.

The picture is fine in fact i like the design... The problems about this are that someone could go in a party let everyone else do the dirty work and profit, or only use the gear when buying things from to get the items at a cheaper price.

I was thinking about providing a small crown bonus to people in their party.

I feel status effects do more than just a buffed damage. Imagine this: Chaos set has that whole array of weakened defense to status effects in exchange for a widespread buff on all weapons. When you're doing FSC, Prestige, or really just anything, status tends to be more effective to me than anything. If I'm in room full of enemies with status effects, I try my best to keep my distance at all cost, especially with freeze. Once you're frozen and you shield is broken, you're pretty much screwed (unless you have a remedy of course.)
If you made it something like that, I'd be a little bit more onboard.
Still, not sure if I like the 20% increase in loot. Your basic run in the FSC on elite scores you about 8-10k cr. With your armor, that would turn to 9.6-12k cr. With your armor, people would just grind Vana more than ever. The whole point of what's currently in development is to try to get people to play the arcade & stop grinding the FSC. So here's my suggestion:
Merchant, in this context of the game, is one who sells gear, recipes, or other types of loot. How about instead of the loot increase, you make it that there's a '' luck bonus. '' This means that when interacting with merchants, you still have the POSSIBILITY to buy things at a cheaper price, as well as getting more access to certain gears and recipes that wouldn't be available until the next cycle. Sound fair?

+1 For merchants to get access to more recipes and gears.

Eww... No.

It doesn't really take any skill to run through levels and then talk to basil. At the very least, running FSC takes some minute amount of skill to complete.

I like the idea of revamping the arcades, making danger rooms more frequent, adding special event boards, increasing arena frequency, etc, but making merchanting easier is ew.

That's an interesting concept but it wouldn't work. For example, treasure vaults would be ridiculously stashed with crowns. But TVs are rare (relatively). How about Chaos clones in RJP? They barely get hit at all, and defense would be about the same. It's just more crowns. Besides inflating the economy, it would also be easily exploited via alts. Oh, and just put on your merchant set before buying anything.

Well then come up with a way

Well then come up with a way to balance this idea. That's why this is a forum, not a workshop. Criticism is ok, but instead of just saying "This sucks," say why it sucks or find a way to make it not suck.

You're assuming that people want to make your idea work instead of deciding that the idea as a whole isn't worth the trouble/is fundamentally flawed/etc.

The weird part about it is that they would be right to think it's fundamentally flawed. The majority of your crowns come from killing things. This set slows that down or punishes you for trying to kill things. Chaos has the same "low defense" ideals while killing stuff way faster.

In other words, your idea already exists.

Call the set "Midas Touch". It turns vials/heat/hearts into coins.
No reduced anything. More coins, replacing existing loot and only sacrificing survivability by removing healing items.

Fair enough to me.
