So yeah as most of you know SK has been lagging, like more than usual. For me it's not usually an issue for me (#team4bars) but I know it becomes a problem when I've been constantly lagging for a week everyday up until 1:00 AM.

I know it's easier said than done, but we need a better/stronger server, these announced updates will only put more load on the server, and what good is the update if I can't enjoy it due to connection?

I know it seems farfetch'd (Pokeman reference <69) but I at least hope the lag issue is fixed,

Cutting this short cause inschool

It was already suggested. In fact, everyone wants the servers to be upgraded.

Show me a traceroute and I'll give you my support.

Until then...

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

Well, enhanced net code that takes lag into account. That could help.

Also enhance your computer. I have 2 bars on my old-ish laptop at maxed settings, and 4 bars at the lower settings. It's how Java works.

OOO has said that their servers actually aren't strained.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !
If they get stronger server they can't be ecological responsibble as now. They will no more have hamster-turning-in-their-wheel powered server.

Klipik: truth, but somebody did once comment something about their net code being... not the best
and added he couldn't tell more because he wasn't allowed.

If there's someone who actually knows about this stuff and wants to research: counts as community service.

my thoughts

The RAM and graphics card on your computer plays a surprisingly big role in SK lag.
I have a crappy 512mb hybrid graphics along with the standard integrated one on my laptop. My computer overheats and shuts down when I use the graphics card too much so I usually stick with the integrated one. I lag a lot. Recently, during colder weather, I would turn on my graphics card to play LD. I see a noticeable improvement in lag, which usually translates into a much higher hit rate in Lockdown (causing people like Danielflame to say "wtf, how did Cradarc kill me?" since in the past I was getting owned consistently). I also noticed a significant drop in SK graphic performance when one of my RAM cards burned out this Spring. I literally started to experience lag more frequently when my RAM got cut in half (From 4G to 2G).

That being said, SK servers is not completely free from blame. Recently, there have been increasingly more times where everyone in a party (or LD match) experience the same massive lag spike. Clearly that is a centralized issue. Either the server is having hiccups itself, or a main "feeder" server is choking up. I think SK should get at least another server in the U.S. Maybe have all the even # havens run off the original, and the odd # havens run off the new one, situated more towards the West coast (since the current one is in the East). I understand the developers are also situated in the West coast, so this would be beneficial for them as well.
It's a big decision, but if OOO runs a promo for it, I'm sure lots of people would be willing to contribute to help, even those who normally wouldn't buy promos.

@Cradarc

Your computer isn't a source of latency, which is what people refer to as lag. Your internet connection and 000's servers are.

Frame drops is your computer though. If you have frame drops, then you need to upgrade.

WHAT IF!?!?!?!?!?!

The majority of the data transfer wasn't generated online but instead pre-generated on the server (things like where switches, totems, spawn points and all dat junk) and all the legit generating was hosted on one generation map (done and sent by the host of the party leader) I may sound like a derp when it comes to this but doing so would really just lessen the stress on the servers.

Server provides:
Connection from player to player - self explanatory
system links - data being transferred, generated and shtuff
map links - spawning, map loading, and other shtuff
chat links - communication, chat log, system chat log, shtuff like dat

What I think the server should provide:
Connection from player to player - too lazy to type
map links - Ctrl + V the above
chat links - ...

What? What's wrong with asking for proof of where the latency is actually coming from rather than just blindly supporting someone whenever they cry "lag"?
