Do you think we need better/more servers: yes
How much do you think it costs a year for servers currently: 10 to 50k USD, games like second life have over 5000 servers, those cost 1.25 mil annually but spiral knights only got two (US & EU) so my estimation is pretty high

Do you think we need better/more servers: No. I get some random lag at times and I've confirmed it's not on my side but it's obviously not related to server capacity as much as it probably is to the code of the servers.
How much do you think it costs a year for servers currently: No reason to take a guess. If OOO tells, we will know. If not, it's pointless speculation.

Internet down speed: 10.83 Mbps
Country/City: United States of America, New York
Bars I usually get: 4 on NA, 3 on EU, 2 on Asian server.

More servers would be convenient. But not necessary. It wouldn't be cost efficient enough for such a small community to invest in more servers as of right now.

Where is the Spiral Knights server? This isn't a very good test....

We need the location of the server, and then we can really see what's going on.

If I remember correctly, the EU server is in Ireland (not sure WHERE in Ireland though :P), and the US one is in Virginia.

Anyway, here's my results

First, for my own country

Internet Up Speed: 2.10 Mbps
Internet Down Speed: 14.05 Mbps

And got 10 ms Ping. Now testing with one of the Ireland options:

Internet Up Speed: 2.03 Mbps
Internet Down Speed: 16.19 Mbps
Country/city you're in: Portugal
How many bars do you get mostly: 4
Max amount of bars you ever got: 4
Do you think we need better/more servers: Yes and no. Yes because of the people playing in Australia/Asia. No because if we're playing in the US or Europe the connection shouldn't be too bad with a PC that's not too old or too weak. I would be willing to bet that if OOO managed to fix the netcode decently we'd have a lot less problems with lag. Especially that wtf lag that makes the game unplayable if someone else in the house has to do a Google search on a different PC (Or tablet. I'm serious.)
How much do you think it costs a year for servers currently: Don't know. And like Krakob said: "No reason to take a guess. If OOO tells, we will know. If not, it's pointless speculation."

Download: 37mb/s - 38mb/s
Ping: 9ms - 12ms

To the EU server (Dublin, Ireland):

Upload: 15mb/s to Vodafone - 4.6mb/s to Digiweb - 1.9mb/s to Eircom
Download: 9.66 mb/s to Vodafone - 7.98 mb/s to Digiweb - 2.18 to Eircom
Ping: 106ms to Vodafone - 204 to Digiweb - 232 to Eircom

obviously you're far away from the dublin servers so the up and down speeds are slower and ping is higher

Do you think we need better/more servers: better? no. More? Probably. Could use a russian server, china server, aussie server, south american server. We have players worldwide, and while we don't have a large amount, it may help grow the game.
