When an entire gun puppy pack starts shooting...

What can a knight do?

More specifically, I'm referring to situations such as in a T2 arena, with a confined space and a 8-gun-puppy or 4-rocket-puppy spawn. I know they don't shoot until they're damaged or someone gets in their line of sight, so not provoking them is the best case, but when they ALL start shooting bullets/rockets is there a general backup plan to keep in mind? I have a very hard time dodging everything when this happens, let alone do damage, and my shield isn't exactly that sturdy...and all of this is not factoring in the OTHER mobs that are charging in as well (Mecha Knights or Alpha Wolvers are the worst). And to make things worse, if the whole team wipes all of the puppies end up facing different directions, so someone revives, some puppies start shooting, the revived person has to dodge, aggro others...and then the cycle comes back.

So, yeah, is there a plan B you use when this sort of thing happens (maybe in PUGs when someone runs in the middle of the room)? I'm in full 2* Kozma equipment, by the way (Calibur, Blaster, Cobalt armor set, Defender).

Thanks!

Cryotech alchemer

If there's an idiot in the middle of the room, hope that he keeps the puppy's focus and stick to the outside yourself. You should be able to whack them from behind that way.

Failing that, try to kill ones near each other first, so you get a relatively "safe" corner of the room, then work your way around slowly. Be patient. Freezing bombs and guns can help, too. A cryotech alchemer is really nice against puppies. It keeps them from aiming at you and it does extra damage compared to the blaster because constructs are weak to elemental damage.

Also, you will want to get out of the Cobalt armor as soon as you can. There is little in the game that does piercing damage (just spikey lichens), but lots of things do elemental damage. I use the demo armor because I'm a bomber. The magic cloak and hood are also good 2* protection with elemental defense. Similarly, the Owlite shield would be an upgrade over the defender, although going up in star level will help you more than switching lines in the short term with your shield, because extra health will matter a lot, especially against alpha wolvers.

Kozma's swords and bombs are

Kozma's swords and bombs are great! Her gun's a bit weak but alright. Her armor and shields are kind of bad.

When all the puppies are firing at once, start charging your Calibur! Slip behind one that's shooting at someone else, point yourself at the Puppy, and release your charged attack at point blank. The Calibur's charged attack can score up to three hits on immobile or frozen enemies-- and Gun Puppies are immobile. This'll lop off something like 3/4ths of their health if you're in a 4-player team, or kill it outright when solo or with 2 players. I call it "Assassinating."

Rockets from Rocket Puppies can hit, damage, ignite and even kill other enemies. Take cover behind an inactive Rocket Puppy and let the active one shoot it down. (This doesn't alert the inactive one to your presence unless you actually bump into it yourself.) Though this doesn't work so well in Tier 3, where the rockets become smart-homing and will try to maneuver around obstacles and other monsters.

I initially run around and

I initially run around and shield right before the rocket hits. I usually get like 3-4 of the puppies taking friendly fire. Then, I shield right up to then and slash away with swords. It works really well, Gun puppies don't do well against the owlite series.

Calibur...

Calibur can only score two hits. Leviathan can score three hits. I forget when you get the 3rd hit exactly, maybe Ascended maybe not until Levi.
Still, that's what I do... charged calibur (or levi now) attack at point blank from behind. Hold down shield button as it finishes, and if it looks clear and the gun puppy is still living, throw another couple attacks. If it's not clear, either turtle around under my shield to get behind again or just wait until it shoots... then two slashes and shield, and the gun puppy -should- be dead.

In crowded and crazy volatile situations though, I just use my cryo driver. It's not always safe to stay in one place at all, shield or no shield.

I got smeared today when I was approaching with a charged levi attack and somebody pinged the gun puppy with a gunshot... just enough to wake it and let it start shooting me. Elemental alchemers -do- do 'extra' damage to gun puppies, but really, guns are very slow against them in any case. Nice for shooting them across a gap or low wall, or when you -have- to keep moving... but one charge attack and two slashes is far and away faster than an elemental alchemer, which in turn is far and away faster than any other gun.

(solo a calibur charge attack generally will one-shot a gun puppy too, which is nice. Assuming you have tempered or ascended in T2 and Levi in T3.)

Nah, it's 3 hits from the regular Calibur too. Haven't noticed a difference in the range or hitboxes-- just in the damage.

When there are rocket

When there are rocket puppies, and they have spotted me, I always position myself so that the rockets hit other enemies.. :)

But as someone else already said.. Stay on the edge of the arena, that way the puppies wont se you when they spawn.
