What's the deal with Recon Ranger Flares and Artillery Strikes?

I mean, you recover them... FROM ENEMIES, for one. You're telling me that Monsters just happen to have a fully-loaded flare gun with them, and never use it. Even if they ate it, it still works.

And along the lines of that, how the heck are Recon Rangers even supposed to see a Flare all the way inside a giant plant? Do they have super-man like powers? And what about Artillery Strikes? Where do the missiles even come from? Are they just randomly hanging from the ceiling?

I NEED ANSWERS.

Recon Rangers are always watching. And artillery strikes... have you never heard of laser-guided missiles?

So if they're always watching, does that mean they just watched us crash onto Cradle?

Yes. Captain Ozlo should have fired his flare gun off sooner... but no, he thought "oh, I'll save it for the next planet". Consumables exist to be used dude!

... yeah.

Hey, flares make as much sense as intact vials and health capsules, but I can live with that.

Artillery strikes on the other hand are too silly even for videogame rules.

Treasure Boxes.

Treasure boxes also drop these flares/artillery strikes/turret kits. They were probably left behind as spare parts from teams that went out ahead (alpha team, woo). The monsters are just carrying them around because they looted the boxes and thought they looked important.

The recon rangers are a pretty awesome concept.

The artillery strike is ok. I was having issues when running with another person - I ordered the strike and apparently he didn't even see the missiles land. Anyone else have that issue?

The spiral order are just constantly bombing the clockworks at all times and the beacon just draws in whichever missiles happen to be in the surrounding airspace.

Khamsin>Captain Ozlo should have fired his flare gun off sooner... but no, he thought "oh, I'll save it for the next planet".

I can totally relate to that. I mean, it could be marginally more useful on the next level, right?

Zeddy>The spiral order are just constantly bombing the clockworks at all times and the beacon just draws in whichever missiles happen to be in the surrounding airspace.

They must have one hell of a defense budget then.

...HQ confirmed for secretly being the United States!

From what I remember

The recon flares are supposed to signal a nearby ranger who's on patrol. And with all those dangerous costumes made from fallen rangers, I can only assume they didn't recover the flares.

The artillery doesn't make as much sense, and the turrets are often used by the spiral order, so I honestly don't know if those originated from cradle or the order's techs. As consumables, having the turrets originate from Cradle would make more sense, but then again this is about a game where we can fight globs of jello with a medical tool.

Well, every single Spiral Knight is err... a knight. All of the Spiral population has had military education.

@OP
I've never even seen either of these. Boy, I've been playing too much Terraria.

How do I trajectory?

I'm wondering how the Knights are able to carry out precision bombardments, given that every part of the clockworks is moving relative to every other part. Given how precise the strikes are, and the fact that they take the same amount of time to impact no matter where you are, I wouldn't be surprised if the knights are somehow teleporting the shells into position, because I don't think you can actually pull off that kind of stuff with traditional artillery (not to mention the fact that the various levels are said to be enclosed in some kind of "bio-dome", which would block any incoming artillery fire).

Elusive little so-'n'-so.

Has anyone actually had an Auto Turret Kit drop for them?
I've managed to pick up the others many many times but I've still not come across one.

Is that first computer game you're playing?
In most games enemies drop loot that is totally illogical. Little, rat-like demons dropping full plate armours, ravens dropping axes and so on.
