Hello all, I'm fairly new (only have mostly 2 star stuff) and I'm planning on being a "swordsman", and I would like to know whether a Vog Cub Set, Skolver Set, or Snarbolax Set (or a mixture of anything) would be a good goal to reach for with a Flourish.
Also, what sword would be good paired up with a Flourish/FF?
Wolver Set 5 Star Upgrades
Yes, Flourish is a great weapon, because it's very strong against fiends, which are the hardest monster family (in my opinion, which is shared by many people apparently). Do not get rid of yours. Considering pairing it with an elemental gun, or with a shadow or elemental sword...
You can pair your sword with a handgun, as Mignight-Dj says. Or you can carry multiple swords. There are only a few places where pure sworders have trouble --- namely, fields of turrets protected by spikes. The particular mix of weapon types that you use is the closest thing you have to a "character class" in this game. It's a personal choice, it's entirely up to you, there are no wrong answers, and you can change your mind whenever you want.
You may find my detailed sword guide helpful. It discusses the Wolver upgrades, but also sidearm guns, how to choose a set of swords, etc.
I hate fiends. They dodge too much AND they deal shadow damage.
However, one hit with your sword will cancel their attack, unless they're Overtimer. Then run. RUN!
They're so cute, and fall to my mercy with my abundance of shadow defensive armors and annoyingly high amount of fiend damage bonuses.
Be noted, flourish is not a good weapon of choice at this point, if you have beaten snarbolax already then be warned, the next two bosses you will encounter are both resistant to piercing damage, that means your weapon will do squat against them, the best thing you should do is not to use the flourish and make the brandish that you may already gotten for free from the mission into a night blade, the night blade will help you immensely in the battle ahead. As for armor, I recommend you to look into elemental hoods in the wiki, they will come useful in the endgame when paired up with vogcub coat, as for your helm you should aim for skolver.
And be wary of the following:
-snarbolax coat is very hard to get (very), if you are really committed into making it, I suggest you to make a full skolver set and aquire the final variant of the night blade, the acheron. Then you should ask some vanguards in the haven/or forum whether or not they wanna do a shadow lair. The set I suggested before grants you minimal requirement for the ice queen lair, (BE WARNED, IT IS SUPER HARD AND STOCK UP ON money and sparks of life and try to avoid using them, you will die alot in shadow lair and snarbolax coat aint cheap)
-being too committed to any of the three weapons are punished in the world of spiral knights, it is best if you get a hand gun of some kind to pair up with your main sword, it will help you immesely in the late game as the enemies get harder and do more damage. Avoiding damage is better than tanking them, a gun has range and can hit turrets in long range and help you keep in range with large enemies. If you don't want to be too committed into guns, you can just use your blaster, it comes for free with the mission clearance. (if you sold it, I recomend you the alchymers)
