Hello people.

I am wondering, what is better for guns. I am trying to decide between shadowsun or justifier or nameless. My main question is this:

What is better, asi or dmg? I would like to get each set for separate reasons. Here is my analysis for each:

Shadowsun- VH dmg, max with trinket plus 6 health potentially. But quite slow (also, not going for any UVs, makes it more fun).

Nameless- Nice against freeze bomb, but elemental defense is kind of useless since main dmg weapons are GF and flourishes. Asi VH, max with recon or trinket.

Justifier- Piercing defense, but no elemental for other gunners. Stun resist for the rare stagger storm, sort of useful.

I am leading towards nameless, because it seems like asi is slightly better (i will be doing weapon switching), but max damage would be really nice.

What do u guys think? My weapons that I plan to use are Magma Driver, Umbra Driver, And Callahan. (Yes I know about the storm driver, pulsars, and the antiguas). I am trying to use underused weapons that dont suck (no Iron slug pls). People barely use magma driver seriously, they use sentenza over umbra, and nobody (except Dr-Bugos, but she has wicked UVs) uses Callahan.)

Thanks for any help!!!

Also, I definitely want to use the callahan because getting hit with hit just seems like such a B-slap, with the stun and quick animation. Good stuff...

I haven't got any of the 5*

I haven't got any of the 5* gear, but I'm probably going to get Shadowsun. ASI is good for getting off a lot of shots in a short time, but damage is the thing that'll pack a real punch. Remember you can wear a combination of the gear; get the best of both stats.

Edit: And considering you plan to use two-shot guns, ASI isn't going to do much for you. I'd suggest dmg.

^....Hmm....that is an excellent argument. However, I dont believe shadowsun allows you to alchemer switch as effectively? Not sure tho lol, I only have 4* noob gunner armor.

But yeah, I rly dony know. I like asi because everything is wicked fast (even magnus!), but dmg is normal. Super damage would be sweet, but getting shots to hit is the main problem I have with my 300ms. Ping

We should totally duel once we are maxed out....the ultimate battle...of ASI VS DMG

With the guns you're picking, ASI won't help much. Shadowsun will be the better choice.

@Rezzler

I have something like 300 ping too, consistent one bar of connection. Makes it difficult to hit. I've only got noob 4* armor. We seem pretty even, lol.

lockdown? discussed many times

First, is your question mainly about Lockdown? Parts of your text suggest so. But you also want a "general gunner setup". Please clarify.

The topic of gunner loadouts has been discussed many times. Be sure to read the Gunslinger Guide on the wiki. Also try searching Google for something like gunner loadout site:forums.spiralknights.com.

ASI vs. damage: ASI always helps your DPS a little (about 4%), and it also helps your defense, by letting you interrupt/kill enemies slightly faster. In contrast, damage bonus sometimes doesn't help you at all (the monster still takes four shots to die), but sometimes helps you dramatically (suddenly it takes only three shots). There's no clear rule of thumb that you can use to choose one over the other in general.

CTR vs. ASI: This depends on whether you're charge-focused or regular-attack-focused. Callahan is certainly the latter. Alchemers benefit from both.

For PvE, I would go for Chaos, or Shadowsun, or a mix of Shadowsun and Nameless.

^Yeah, it is mainly about lockdown, since PvE is severely lacking in any type ofchallenge.

And the wiki guides are useful for noobs, but for people who have played for at least a year, they dont do much if anything. It was OK, but doesnt help much with tactics like weapon switching :/

And I intend to use mainly regular attacks, so CTR isnt too hih of a conaideration. Mainly asi vs dmg. .

Thanks!

You need very high damage to kill someone with no shadow defence with 5 shots rather than 6 for Umbra. Only high to kill with 6 shots instead of 7 for people wearing Shadowsun, but I'm assuming you'll be using Calla for those. Either way you definitely dont' want to be stuck at no damage bonus, where you might require 8 shots.

With Calla you need high damage to kill with 5 rather than 6 shots assuming your opponent has no piercing defence. Ultra to do the same with a Skolver.

This is all assuming your opponent is dual-penta.

Keep in mind that if your objective is to hoard damage, you want to fall right under at a point where you need one extra hit to kill your opponent, as this will allow you to milk a bit more damage from them in total. If you're looking to make battles easier rather than flaunt skills on the other hand, you want to hit the point where you need one less shot to win.

It doesn't look like max damage will make a large difference for you in most cases, but the very high from shadowsun would.
