If the ME is shared betwwen Knights, and the knights get free Mist Tanks, make new knights to get them!
Easy ME
First if this was possible would lead to mass banning since its clearly breaking the terms and conditions of Sk. Regardless, I would not advise doing this since it will lead to your account getting banned sooner or later. *And remember Mist tanks are not tradable*
ME is shared between your knights. You also can only get 1 Mist Tank per tier per account, so once you've reached, say, tier 2 with one knight, you'll never get that tank again.
I have no idea why OOO don't post Paid and Free account differences. Accounts share mist energy on the *same computer*. I don't have technical details on how this is done, but that's how it works.
If you spend *any* amount of money, even just 75 cents for 200 energy, that account will maintain its own pool of energy. Only free accounts share energy. New knights do not get Mist Tanks if it is made with the same account.

Agreed. There should be at least a NPC explaining this in the rescue camp.

I have an idea. They probably don't want to advertise the fact that you can spend 75 cents on two additional accounts, and you've just tripled your playtime for $1.50. Have those 2 alts reach tier 2, and they become excellent income generators for your main, especially if you're spending that ME wisely on entering Depth 14s. All you miss out on is heat, but you end up getting way, way, way, way more energy in the long run than if you had just spent $1.50 buying CE.
Which reminds me. They should allow a onetime fee of 2 or 3 bucks that doubles your mist energy generation. The workaround is already available. Why not just make it more simple to get more playtime?
The basic information is posted, it's just that not enough people read it for some reason.
@ Krokgar : Where are you spending $1.50 on two accounts? They no longer offer the $0.75/200 CE deal, the lowest you could spend is $2.45 on a single account. Making it more simple would defeat the purpose if the "workaround" is getting them money, as well. As in, now if you want to do what you were talking about (if I understand correctly), you'd be spending $5 so you can have 2 "paid" accounts and 1 "free" account, rather than $2-3 (what you're suggesting) for double mist energy generation (which is a bad idea anyway). If they were to implement such a thing, it would have to be a "Once every 30 days" charge, definitely not "one time fee."
@ d0gr0ck : The sad part is, I know most of that stuff just from people posting parts of it in the forums.
[edit] @ ZirePhoenix : Very technically, it is. They provide a link to the Wiki for you at start-up. But since soooooo many people don't actually use these resources, I suppose they should put something in the actual game about it.
Adding it in game would be tough to fit the description it into the theme of the Spiral Knights world of Cradle.
Though every time a person logs in there is a nice big pop-up that contains a link to the wiki. Perhaps plastering a pretty picture on that link section cold attract people's attention to the wealth of information awaiting them.
LOL, they removed the lowest CE denomination? Sad. They're now going to get even less of my monies.

This was changed back in the beginning of May. If you have a look at billing fees and the PayPal structure you will know that they weren't getting it anyway on the smallest denomination.
Not to mention buying CE is quite cheaper in large amounts, if you're eventually going to buy 30 dollars worth, just buy 30 dollars worth NOW, and get like 2k icing.
I just tried that and reached the terminal. No steamtank in the mail :< (yes I did talk to the guy in arcade and completed the quest)
