That is all good night everybody.
Acheron shares damage values with GF, GF is now obsolete
Would have been GG GF if they changed the first swing to be like the flourish swing.
Would have been GG GF if they changed the first swing to be like the flourish swing.
Doesn't Curse count for anything?
Also I don't have acheron so I can't tell if that's true.
Krakob's telling the truth. I have both weapons, and they have similar, if not exactly, the same damage output.
Gran faust still holds merit, though, in the fact it is still a long-swing sword, and is easier to hit more people at once with.
What I am afraid of, now, is Ezho in LD xD
He already slaughters most of us using his acheron, and this new buff will turn him into the next chibi-sized Kenpachi.
Not quite:
Both Acheron and GF are obsolete; they've been taken over by obsidian blade.
Please clarify. Does Obsidian Edge do the same damage as new Acheron, but with additional poison? Or does it do the same damage as old Acheron, but with additional poison (making it "exactly as good as" the elemental brandishes)?
Edit: Here is a report that Obsidian Edge can cause poison on regular attacks. So that would make it "better than" the elemental brandishes.
(Quotation marks are there because of course comparisons across damage types don't make perfect sense.)
Edit: The post to which I linked has been subsequently edited, so that it no longer claims poison on regular attacks.
@Bopp
Judging from the damage bar the Obsidian Edge is the old Acheron damage but with poison on charge. The post you mentioned was a question, not a explanation. After following two different people with the Edge I can say it is equal to any other status brandish and only inflicts poison on charge.
The entire Acheron line got buffed right? How does Nightblade's damage compare to Sealed Sword's then? (Worried about T2 LD too)
I have no reason to believe that Obsidian Edge or what it's called shares damage values with Acheron and that's due to the poison. Does anyone have a reason to believe that in the end, really? If you ask me, the reason that they buffed Acheron is obviously because they wanted to do Obsidian without screwing over anyone who has ever invested in a silly good Acheron. Like myself.
What's so valuable about curse when you can use a friggin' Acheron, anyways?
Acheron used to have 825 DPS at D24 with a double max. Gran Faust has 591.
Let's redo the maths with the new numbers!
(437 * 2 + 597) * 39 * (1/60) = 956
That's a lot. 1.6 times Gran Faust's DPS. Is the curse still worth it?

@Terra Necro
The damage is EXACTLY the same.
1st and 2nd swing of Acheron = 1st of GF
3rd of Acheron = 2nd of GF
Acheron charge hit = GF charge hit
Explosions = phantasmal blade
@Offense Armor
Why don't you find out and share it with the rest of the community? :3
Thanks for the information. I was looking forward to your and Zeddy's data from your guys' testing :)
@Sirius-Voltbreaker What are you talking about? My GM, Hadesrebellion is currently using the obsidian sword in LD...
Glad to be of assistance! I think we've already figured the Obsidian weapons out as they all have weapons of similar damage and stuff.
Edge = other 5* Brandishes but poison and shadow damage.
Carbine = Sentenza - Gremlin bonus + Poison.
Crusher = shadow Electron Vortex. One could also guess that the two share duration. Zeddy has noted that he felt like this one had lower knockback on the explosion or something but since he's the one with it, I'll let him make statements about it.
Hope that clarified anything you might've wondered.
Edit: oh wow I just saw you said "was" and not "am". Oh well, I hope someone else will find this post useful!
Edit 2: got some new info on the Carbine, updated post.
Honestly... you picked the sealed swords over the Brandishes in general for the swing style, rather than damage.
I thought it was relatively common knowledge that Brandishes out-damage the sealed swords. Even before the Brandishes' charge got changed, the rapid combos would out-damage the sealed swords, short of the Divine Avenger's charge. You picked up a Gran Faust over an Acheron because the swings have large aoe and large amounts of knockback. The Brandish has nice damage and all, but the first swing (if not the second swing as well) only hits a small area directly in front of the user. If a GF combo hits two enemies per swing while a brandish combo only hits one enemy, then the GF will do more damage overall.
It's like saying: "The Electron Vortex does about the same amount of damage as Voltaic Tempest. In addition, both bombs are designed for crowd control and both bombs cause shock... However the Voltaic Tempest has a larger AOE. Therefore, the Electron Vortex is obsolete." While technically true and logical statements when you look at the direct facts, there are reasons beyond numbers that make you use a weapon.
I'm not sure if it is true, but people have been saying the Obsidian Blade does less damage (w/o poison).
The Obsidian edge does the same damage as Acheron did before this patch.
Acheron got its damaged bumped up but Faust still holds two distinct functions that still makes it viable for use: Curse proc and its attack pattern.
The Curse is obvious and it rarely procs via second swing. I did a couple of party runs down JK with a friend, wearing my DV and using a Purity I perk from my Seraphynx - most definitely to exploit the Curse proc w/ charge attacks. I got cursed but not before I got 2-3 mooks under that. Not to mention the Curse res reduces the amount of time and items that are cursed when I am under it which means I still got another weapon up my slot to use in case it happens. I devised a Curse-res loadout to spam GF's charge attack and it curses more in exchange for DPS - its a fair trade IMO.
As for the combo. Considering the damage it can do and the slowness isn't viable for DPSing bosses but rather more for crowd control from my experience, a wide swing to sweep out any mini-jellies and knockers that gather around to smack their wands. I didn't use Faust on Apocrea but I have Divine Avenger and used that a lot during my soul hunts, just in case I found bugs crawling around a broken tombstone - crowd controlling a swarm of mini-monsters. I believe GF is a viable choice for crowd control because its attack pattern poses a bigger hitbox in the first swing; and knockback on the second. Perfect when a party needs someone to take care of the mini jellies in Dairy Queen's [Ice Queen; Shadow Lair] Palace.
In contrast to Acheron, it may be a DPS oriented weapon than GF. With the beefed up damage and the multitude of explosions fired off when executing the charge attack since it still holds use for its combination of the initial slash's attack power and the explosions that follow - charge attack at point-blank.
