I've heard people using Acheron
I've heard people charge shotting tombs with Blitz

What do you think is the fastest way?

with 4 man party even with max damage you cant kill them easily because they resist a bit and run away from you, brandish charges doesnt work with the "charging up the tombstone" (so the first HIT destroy the tombstone then the explosions hits the souls) because the souls acts like mini jellies blocking all the explosion, once they are released the explosions works a bit.

im going to try now:

1)placing a shivermist on the tombstone in that way i can freeze them before they run away and blitz them.
2) placing a electron vortex then Wild huntinb blade charges (or triglav/sudaruska charge)

idk which one will work best going to test now. at least now i got for the sword and half for the gun then im going to level up those weapons

If you're taking forever to crack open the tombstones, you're going too slow.

Are purple souls like other souls in that they aren't weak versus a certain type of damage? Not sure if one of pierce/elemental/shadow would do anymore damage.

At this point I'm fairly sure it's Acheron, though Rocket Hammer is handy for catching up with them.

Of course, they have to be weak versus the one weapon that is useless for everything else in the mission level. LOL. Thanks for the info!

Any thoughts on whether the vortex bombs pull them in? I've had a few escape my killing them in time unfortunately :(

Wow.

The rocket hammer and flourish r best for souls. Dash to catch up and destroy souls and use flourish to hit more than 1 of them quickly at once.
The rocket hammer actually has some use in pve now!

Vortex bomb indeed pulls them but since lets say you use in on a tombstone and only spawn 3, they going to be pulled, but since they are just 3 the explosion would sent them away unless they get shock, since they are quite fast they can run away of the bomb range easily, would be another story if you use the bomb agaisnt 6 of them.

What do Free Souls even do when killed? They haven't damaged me and I held a hugging booth with them as my customers.

Uh when you "kill" them (free them) they give you tokens and disappear. Didn't you notice this?

Honestly, I found that they moved around too much for close range melee hits. EV with combuster charge attacks with max ctr and max damage seemed to be a bit easier. Basically, just leave an ev by a cracked gravestone and charge up combuster. GG

This strategy is also good for keeping the scarabs under control but a bit more time consuming than just running around using normal melee swings on tombs.

thats the strategy im using but now i place EV if souls come out of the tombstone i use hammer is kinda quick too. those 2 weapons are pretty good for that soul hunting

yeah its time consuming but at least you get lot of tokens. actually i managed to get the mats for the 3 weapons now it just matter to heat them.

Staggerstorm works quite well, that and shiver. (They seemed to shy away from the shiver when I tried it, but that may just be me.)

Also, if you get too close to them, they'll run away from you, of course. By using bombs you can stand just outside their "field of vision" and bomb them with DBB without having to run after them like some wild greasy piggychase.

Takes a bit of time to off them though.

Regarding charge shotting

Regarding charge shotting tombstones with Blitz in a party of 4:

Pros:
* Can bring the 3 souls to near-death, but rarely kill them outright.
* Can almost instant-kill a whole group of scarabs, usually leaving 1 or 2 alive.

Con:
* Dangerous if the tombstone spawns 3 skeletons. They explode instantly in your face.

I just tried a team of blitz/shiver. We split into two, one shivering, one blitzing.

It was O.K, we gathered 800 tokens, but died a lot.
Don't think it's the fastest method though.

Welp, I just went with a team of 3 (1 person bailed)

2 Voltaics + 2 Acherons work the best Imo. We did 3 depths, averaging 768 tokens per depth.

Basically have groups of two and split half the map between the groups (left/right) and have the Voltaic break the stones, while Acheron follows it with a charge. Shock will keep the bugs at bay unlike Shiver.

Weapons

Ran the Apocrea mission (elite difficulty) in a team of 4

Tips: High dps weapon preferably one that does NORMAL damage (Final flourish only did like 130 damage (first hit))
Dread Venom Sriker (geat! kills purple souls quickly)
Leviathan (would be good)
Wild Hunting Blade
etc..

Other weapons (some already mentioned):
Rocket Hammer
Combuster
Final Flourish (used this...wasn't great, only killed 1 out of 3 souls)

Bombs:
Shivermist
Electron/Graviton Vortex
Ash of Agni (never seen in action but might prove useful)

Run in pairs--- one bomber, sword (Pairs are geat as one can free the other if they are caught)

One guy/girl shivers/vortexes (vortexes are arguably better with the ability to contain, however shiver freezes the souls)
Other guy/girl uses DVS or other weapon to kill the souls

IMPORTANT: The more you move the more they run away so try to stay in one place and kill them. Corner them in one place etc..

@Smur: the bugs are strong versus shadow, so are the souls weak versus shadow or something?

they're neutral to it but due to the buff, acheron does more than other brandish types

So far I've found out the following (when killing without help)

-WRH has too much knockback; souls get pushed away.
-cutters/toothpicks have too much movement and not enough knockback; since souls have no collision boxes you slip right through even with AT on.
-vortex or charging before hitting each grave takes too long.
-souls run away from brandish, alchemer, and blitz charges.
-they block brandish explosions.
-because they have no collision boxes, alchemer shots don't ricochet inside of them.
-DBB Doesn't do that much dmg against them.

-shock doesn't restrict their movement all that much.

I was thinking either Triglav charges to freeze and deal substantial dmg for easy finishings off, or just going in a party of 3, sticking together, and each going after one soul with a max dmg sword. (Probably Acheron :P) the ideal would probably be a CTR max DMG max leviathan blade that has a high chance of dealing freeze on hit. Sadly that doesn't exist.
