Usability isn't necessarily relative.

The Dread Venom Strike did not change. It did not suddenly become a worse weapon. It's now overshadowed a bit by the Obsidian Edge, but that doesn't make it unusable.

Few people will have Obsidian Edge, also. Don't forget that. DVS isn't very good against the two families if you ask me, though. Unless we're talking Lichen Colonies or Gremlin Menders. For most gremlins, you want as much knockdown as possible. For jellies, you want knockback as well as strike width if there are plenty.

DVS could still be useful

I'd say a DVS would still be more useful for any Masky user out there. The high attack speed along with Quills can rack up more damage against every enemy than any other weapon I have used before. It's why I use a DVS as my primary back up weapon as long as I have the Maskeraith along with me.

Lets not forget about fiends and undead either. Split shadow and normal damage will only take you so far. I'd rather be fighting them off with full damage than just 50%.

Dread Venom is not at all useless in comparison with Obsidian Edge, it just depends on which situation you use each weapon in.
