I'm starting to warm up to compounds...

This event had me diving for recipes, and after running compounds several more times, I'm actually starting to warm up to them. The level design is actually fairly solid, and the enemy variety provides quite a challenge. The style of the levels is also very atmospheric. Obviously the risk vs reward is horribly, horribly broken, but in terms of playing through them, they're quite fun.

I just wish 000 gave me a reason to do them more often.

I agree totally. The cosmetic features of compounds are very good, but they definitely should have more than a miniscule 4 prize boxes after a treacherous depth

Wow, I thought I was the only

Wow, I thought I was the only one who liked Compound levels... They are funny and challenge, specially the last battle room with those mini-monsters.

I just think that the reward is so low compared with the insane difficulty of the level... Wolver Den is just a bed of roses comparing it with Compounds

Another vouch here to improve

Another vouch here to improve the reward for the insane level of risk presented. If you were to quantize the risk/reward system, ANY instance of respawning enemies should increase the reward about 5-10 regular monsters per spawn point. And since respawning enemies can't fairly drop loot, you have to add prize boxes to make up for it. But (and perhaps rightly, because of the artificial feeling of it all) OOO has not been thrilled to hand out bunches of prize boxes. So I guess the conclusion is that OOO will have to either do something unusual or something totally new regarding rewards to the player in order to make Compounds satisfying.

Here's one idea...how about Heat machines? Hook yourself up to the power source of the Compound in order to truly conquer the respawning enemies and get large amounts of Heat while you sit in this Borg-regeneration-chamber type thing for a few seconds.

Alternatively, you could give them all rewarding minibosses.

@ Treasure box comment

They are the second worst depth type for treasure boxes. Second only to graveyards (which often have none, or 2-4 for 3CE cost). Theyre fun levels. Not worth it though.

Compounds are much easier

Compounds are much easier with the status bombs. VT seems to work great because it offers damage and crowd control at the same time.
