Hey guys, I just finished the SHSAT's and was finally able to start playing last weekend. I saw that Acheron damage had been buffed but that the Obsidian Edge could cause STRONG poison, which could be fairly useful as well. So, my question is thus: should I go with the Acheron's damage boost, or the Obsidian Edge's poison status effect?

If you are to only choose one, then I say Acheron. It's just so overpowered I don't even asdashfdbvlisedbngfliskgdbfn
Although I've barely used mine, I'm guessing that Obsidian Edge is more of a team player's alternative, with the poison that prevents healing and all.
Dasmir does have a point, no matter. If you can get both, get Obsidian Edge before it's too late.

I believe poison helps a lot in Jelly King Palace. Maybe go for that? (and it will only be around for a limited time).

Acheron is very effective against 4/6 types of monsters and good at the other 2. It has become a general purpose weapon and can be brought to almost all situations. What it lacks in status it more than makes up for it in pure damage.
The Obsidian Edge is stuck in a odd spot right now. It has a great poison effect and the same damage as the status brandishes. Its odd spot right now is with the Acheron. The spots the Edge really shines in is anywhere there are healers, so this thing is great for running arenas, JK, or any other gremlin infested area.
It really comes down to how you play and where you play most. If play arenas or just run a lot of JK or gremlin infested floors the Edge will serve you a lot better than Acheron. If you just love pure damage the Acheron will give you that wish.
I would say get the Edge right now, it works the same as the old Acheron and it is a limited time weapon. Acheron can be got at anytime while the Edge is quite a bit more difficult to get.

I agree with you. For places where there are large amounts of mobs, use Edge. Acheron of course, will be basically be better where there are no menders and aren't that much mobs.
Now, my own opinion.
i think that Acheron is better, but will list out the facts for each one.
Acheron
Been buffed now so it does a huge amount of damage.
Much easier to get
Obsidian Edge
Does less damage but has a STRONG status, just like all the other brandish lines, except for Acheron.
Harder to get
Chance of poison quite low and only works with charge. With the brandish lines, i assume you don't charge THAT much.
Thus concluding that Acheron does much more damage and the status effect isn't worth all the runs of Shroud of Apocrea you might do to get one now that they've nerfed it and the damage loss. Adding to that, the status only works with charge. (however, the cool animations might be worth it if you're a vanguard who has nothing else to do).
Obsidian Carbine and Obsidian Crusher are definitely worth it though.

If you like charging your weapon, get Obsidian Edge.
If you like swinging your weapon, get Acheron.

get Obsidian edge and forget about the poison now since its a time limited weapon and you can make archeon at anytime.
and yes Archeon is in stereoid right now ( Brandish with a sealed sword damage... yes totally balanced)
