The tokens are the currency
The tokens are the currency for which you pay to buy the items he sells. Just click on them as tho you were buying anything else for crowns.

Actually its something else cause I have this same problem. You get items that say you should take to the token trader but when your there he won't take it from you and you can't buy anything either because you don't have tokens. I have things like Grim Spark I can't get rid of

Brinks, the token trader, sells 33 different items for Grim Spark tokens. You're either at the wrong vendor or you're doing it wrong.

oh goodness
I can only believe that you are trying to buy an item with tokens, while you dont have enough of that token to buy it, for example, it costs 10 grim sparks for a 4 star material like a ghost bell, and 20 grim sparks for a five star material like shadow steel

I think he's trying to click his tokens to sell them to the vendor.
Tokens operate like currency. Click on the item you want to buy.
The trader is located in the Bazaar, next to the recipe seller.
