So my friend dragged me into an ice queen shadow lair and had me convinced since i didnt have to pay. ive never done ice queen, and we are doing it in 20 days from now. I seerusly have no freeze resist armors, and no fire weapons. I am a gunner but when it comes to shadow lairs, I bring 1 sword with me. But i was thinking i could replace the sword with ash of agni cause its op there. Since skolver is swords, I cant do that, but what about nameless? it has freeze resist but it has elemental defense, do you recommend it? So far this is what i plan on crafting/bringing for the SL;

Nameless Poncho + Hat

Heater shield/Aegis/BTS

Nova Driver/Magma Driver

Biohazard

Ash of Agni

elite ctr trinket

Drakon's my sprite so thatll help alot, i could equip the freeze resistent perk on my sprite and then switch out the hat for a justifier hat. Thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions/Recommendations?

Don't bother with freeze resist. You'll get frozen for long enough to get hit no matter how much you have.

Alright, so since i shouldnt bother wih freeze, ive updated my loadout;

Justifier Hat + Jacket

Aegis

Nova Driver/Magma Driver

Biohazard

Ash of Agni

elite ctr trinket (guns)

Drakon will have the liquifier perk instead of the freeze. Anybody else have some thoughts or suggestions?

I think at least one piece of Skolver would be worth using just for the piercing/freeze resist. Some enemy attacks still do moderate status so having full freeze resist + a perk will still be of help there. Although if you're planning to make Ice Queen armor you can just use that in future runs.

Ash of Agni is nice but really one or two people need to bring it, see what your friends are bringing too. Otherwise bring Dark Retribution if you have it.
You might also want Polaris for the slime turrets or Obsidian Carbine/Sentenza or something

or if you're using two alchemers use Umbra instead of Nova

Well..Since you asked

Here are my suggestions of ELITE weapons:

- Final Flourish

- Callahan

- 3* antigue

- Last but not least, da beastly thorn bomb. Can't do a jelly run without dat.

So now that you've gotten your CORE weapons, lets look at the other attributes, shall we?
Armor: Get something with MAX poison resistance, I would suggest Dragon
Helmet: DRAGON

Shield: Lets face it, in the Ice Queen levels, there will be LOTS of fire. Take a fire resistant shield, I would suggest the Exalted Honor Guard, since it has no element defense whatsoever.

As for trinkets, you'll need two CTR trinkets for dat sword. After that, set your sprite to deal with Gremlins, never know when those little boogers might pop up.

That should get your through it! Good luck mate

(Disregard all above information...I'm in a weird mood atm)

I do have a DR and a lvl 10 ash tail coat. Ironicly, I'm crafting the snarby coat but 20 days is okay enough to get another ash tail! I guess I will craft skolver coat for survival's sake. This is gonna take alot of orb farming but it'll be worth it. Now moving on with my teammates, I have a ppure gunner that will be wearing their nameless set and bringing his carbine and ogher cool guns and a pure bomber bringing the crusher and electron bomb. We have another mate but my friend gave me no info on him. Since no one here has the ash Im assuming I will be the pyro maniac in this run. I dont have another alchemer, but if somone was going to suggest the magma, I wouldve crafted it. I do have the carbine though Im aiming for mass dmg with the biohazard instead. The nova will be primarily used for constructs or surrounding jellies and such. But during the boss do I spam the agni? Thanks for all the info guys btw, except seargentwrench :3

But during the boss do I spam the agni?

No, no, no, no, no, no. NO. Ice Queen has no spikes to be disposed of.

I do have a DR

You spam this instead. You use it to be disposed of Ice Queen so she can't harm you.

If someone is keeping the queen poisoned, use DR. If not, you can use ash to instagib the minis. At least, that works during the regular RJ fight.

does obsidian crusher count? If not, then we have no poisoner people.

As a gunslinger, if you want to be doing damage, you should get an Umbra Driver. Ice Queen is dense with enemies, and that's where Alchemers really thrive. I'd suggest it over Biohazard any day of the week.

And dont worry too much about the actual Ice Queen boss. She's only marginally more difficult than the Royal Jelly himself. If you are capable of killing the Jelly King while half asleep and watching TV, then the IQ wont be much of a challenge.

I have an almost biohazard,

I have an almost biohazard, and II personally think that it is harrd to use very effectively. The only real benefit would be the poison, and the poison is reasonably reliable. But umbra/Magma switching will beat it. But plain umbra? Close...

No smart-arse, I mean Umbra Driver. Believe it or not, Shadow Damage does good damage vs Slimes, better than elemental damage, even when combined with fire.

^But for ice queen in

^But for ice queen in particular, fire makes them basically harmless since it makes them do normal damage and takes away their ranged attack.

That's Zeddy. Steam login borked for him and he appears to not be alone as the same happened to I think Grimranger who posted under an alt on the Coliseum subforum and got me confused.

Anyways, Zeddy ran the numbers somewhere some while ago and the bigger the crowd, the more you can distribute the fire. Big crowds and Ice Jellies is a good combination for a Magma User. I'll let him link to the post if he can be arsed digging it up.

"even when combined with fire"

Is that so?

Ice Cubes have -6.5 fire resistance. Magma Driver's got +2 fire strength, so that makes a total of 8 strength fire against Ice Cubes.

I dunno what depths Shadow Lairs are at exactly, but let's use D24 numbers. I'll assume max damage bonus, which should work in Umbra's favour since damage bonus does not affect fire.

Umbra: 261
Magma: 155

So that's a gap of 106 damage. Let's bring in fire.
+8 fire: 105 x 5 = 525

Then there's the other enemies. Which gun will work best on lumbers? Silkwings? Keeping you from getting impaled by hard-to-see ground spikes that blend in with the ground texture?

Yes, Magma Driver does have more theoretical damage... but how much health do slimes have? Technically yes, it does better damage, but when I charge my Umbra Driver, it kills a slime or two instantly.

At least in my experience, enemies are either wandering around at full health because no one has touched them yet, or they are being pounded into oblivion by someone. Very rarely do enemies get a slow and painful death (or at least I don't give them a slow and painful death).

EDIT**
You can also debate an AoA will get you comparable fire damage of the Magma Driver, while still getting the damage benefit of the Umbra Driver.

I'm confused now. I thought I

I'm confused now. I thought I had my Ice Queen Lair loadout pretty much set: Acheron, AshoA, Obs. Carbine. But now it's being posited that Magma Driver will be a useful weapon versus the queen, assuming she's poisoned by a teammate's Obs. Edge?

Is this correct? Would one weapon slot be a solid investment for the magma driver? Or would Ach/Ash/Carbine be fine.

Alchemers in general are better as a primary weapon. If you want to rely on your gun to be your main source of damage, get an Alchemer, period.

However, Antiguas, like the Carbine, are better if you want to pull aggro and/or pick-off stragglers. In other words: as a sidearm.

I would still suggest a Polaris to add to that loadout though. You'll want the crowd control and the anti-polyps.

fine, but

Acheron + Ash of Agni + Obsidian Carbine is fine. A team made up of competent players with equipment like that should succeed.

But I do agree that there are better choices than Carbine. Although I hate to admit it, Polaris is a good choice. It works against the turrets. More importantly, in some confined spaces in SRJP, Polaris can keep a crowd of monsters away from you, until the crowd dies.
