I was too late
I was about to create a new post but then I saw this one.
If my web browsers (steam included) wouldn't taked too long to let me login here, I was about to say I has the same problem.
For some reason, I can logon now. Maybe it was some problem with steam servers or something? try login in now.

I keep having this problem too. I tried logging in twice, let it sit for about 3 minutes each time before it finally timed out. Third time, it finally lets me log in. I dunno, it may be a Steam problem or it may be an SK problem. Hard to say. :/

Fix
Go to your Steam Library -> right click Spiral Knights -> click Properties -> disable Steam community by unmarking "Enable Steam Community In-Game"
You can continue to play through Steam like normal except without the overlay (when you press Shift + Tab).

I've had my Steam overlay disabled since SK started crashing upon reaching the ready room, for probably a month now. Having your overlay disabled doesn't affect this login problem as I'm still experiencing it.

Problem
This is a problem for all steam players, sometimes you can log on sometimes not for the last 2 days.
On this morning i played sk but now in the evening i can't it might be a server overload idk the only thing we can do is to hope that it gets fixed soon

I doubt its a server overload, but the strangest thing about it is, not all Steam players are locked out, some are randomly let in and they can't get on when they try to log in again. It does seem like a DoS attack, but I doubt that too.

Steam user here, can't log in either, just says that either the server is down or there's a temporary network outage. Kinda bummed about this, was hoping to finish heating my Blackhawk so I can get that carbine. :S
Edit: And suddenly I'm in? Sounds like something might be off with the server.

The problem might be coming from Steam itself. I got a serious loading problem on Steam since two days ago, half the time it gets a error or never loads a page. I also was trying to trade for the laugh taunt on TF2 but the trade system refused to work.

A Solution To Fix This
I found out a way how to log in SK without closing down by itself.
1)Right click on SK
2)After right clicking, click on Properties
3)Disable the Steam Community In-Game by clicking on the tick next to it
